    Angry downsize a quilt

Found a new heart quilt pattern, but want to make it for baby. Can you scale down this pattern and still look the same? Heart Quilt Pattern by Quilting in the Rain | U Create

I'm sure it can be scaled down by using narrower strips. I would try it with 2" strips cut from yardage. If you wanted it even smaller and wanted to use precuts, you could use honeybun strips for the white and the colored strips. MSQC has a darling honeybun collection that would be perfect for this quilt.

Welcome to the forum Sandy. Cute pattern.

Could you draw it on graph paper to get the dimensions, maybe taking out a couple of the middle rows and adjusting the length of the top ones.

I'd go ahead and make it that size. It'll be a little bit on the big side for the baby but it will grow with the child.

I love that pattern. This quilt was made with that pattern for my grandmother. We just used purple and pink paisley fabric and it came out beautifully.

Very quick and easy quilt with a lot of visual impact. Seeing this makes me want to make another!

I don't know if this helps you or not.

I made that quilt also but had the opposite problem; I wanted it bigger! I just added longer black strips to each side and more black strips to the top and bottom. You could easily scale it down to a smaller size. Just subtract the same amount of inches from each strip. I personally like to make my "baby" quilts bigger so they can grow into them. Also, the bigger quilt can be placed on the floor and the little one has room to wiggle around on it, especially when they are learning to crawl. Here is a picture of the one I made for my cousin for when her and her partner bought their first house together.

Be aware that the original quilt is wider than it is long. It is 50 x 57 and the 50" is the length and 57" is the width. You could leave the borders off and that would take 4" off both the height and width.

The only problem is that this is a memory quilt and I am using fabrics from loved ones, so I cannot waste what I have to work with.

I'm making it with 2 1/2 inch strips, but thanks for sharing that with me, I may use it at a later time.
