Default Math problem with Jennys newest tutorial?!!

    Hi

I am having trouble with the math in the disappering pinwheel.

Somehowe I get lost and do not get matching parts like Jenny do.

I attache some picture so you can see.

I figure it is a mathproblem. I do fine with whole and half inches but after that I am lost.

My pinnwheel is 12 whole inches and 1 half inches and 2 lines. in square.
How do I divied that in to thirds ?

How do you count the lines between the half and whole inches ? What are they called ?

I even tried to iron some creases to help me get the thirds but that did not work either.

    Pleeeaassee Can you help me??

I realy would like to make this block

    Thanks in advance

I can't help with too much, but I saved this because I get stuck with measurements too.

    Hej Annika

As far as I can see it, you divided the whole block in fourths..
So you made the cut halfway between the middle line and the rim.
You should have the whole block divided by three. so if your pinwheelblock has a little more than 12" I'd cut it down to 12" and then 12/3=4 => so you have to cut 4" from the rim or 2" from the middle line, whatever works best for you.

You aren't cutting it into even thirds.

It looks like you have divided it into fourths and cut a 1/4 and 3/4 leaving the middle block and the middle strips twice the size of the outside corners.

To find the lines to cut even thirds, take your block diameter, divide by three and cut at that number and twice that number. For example if the large pinwheel was 12" across it would be 12/3=4" so you'd cut at 4" and at double that 8" (or 4" from the opposite side) this should give you 9 even sized squares.

Edit: KerriS beat me to it by 2 minutes.

    ok

I will go and try this at once.

I will trim my block down to 12" and then do my cutting accordingly

Thanks so much for swift answering!

    Happy new year!

Oh, Annika! A salute to the pioneer within us all!
I wouldn't have touched this with a ten foot pole.
Not ready for prime time, I guess...
I really need to get off the exclamation point.
It may give people the idea that I'm bright and cheerful all the time....
