I just made one for my parents for Christmas. You can see it in my album in my profile. I used one layer cake for the 4 patches and the snowballs (Fall Foliage) and one layer cake for the background fabric (the circle part). I think I used about 2-2 1/2 for the borders and binding. I had 108" wide flannel that I used for the backing; which I think that was a total of 2 1/2 yards. I really enjoyed making it, but i ended squaring up every single block because I wanted them all to be exactly the same size so I would have no problems when it came to putting them together. That was the most time-consuming part of the whole project. Good luck, can't wait to see it!
