What's a good black fabric?
Happy New Year, everyone!
As a member of the 2014 UFO Group, I pulled out my project and discovered that I don't have an adequate amount of black fabric for the sashing. Rather than try to hope that I can match a black *from 2005!!!* I'm going to buy new.
I'd dearly love to know if you've ever found a solid black that is resistant to fading, has good weight, and is all-around a high quality product. This is an Asian quilt in bold colors, so it needs a deep black for the sashing.
Here are the blocks on my design wall:

Any comments on the layout would also be appreciated.
Cheers!
Re: What's a good black fabric?
I love the Amish black sold by Keepsake Quilting. It is $7 yard and they ship quickly. It's the only black I ever use.

I like Kona solids also. If you are using strips for sashing, you can use jelly roll or honeybun strips and can match with yardage or layer cakes, all from Robert Kaufman.
Re: What's a good black fabric?
Kona solids or Bella solids are both nice.
Re: What's a good black fabric?
Thank you all. And Jean, I hadn't thought of Jelly Rolls. That would certainly speed me up (always a plus for this pokey quilter!).

I keep black jelly rolls and honeybuns on hand for sashings and colored JRs for bindings.
Re: What's a good black fabric?
I have recently started using Bella Solids from Moda - very good quality. I find that I like it better than Kona.
Re: What's a good black fabric?
I bought a Belly Solids black jr while at the retreat. While I loved the feel of the fabric, I have never had to deal with such a mess. Little black fuzz balls everywhere. So if you do get this one, be prepared for a mess.
Re: What's a good black fabric?
I agree with Jean and Cyndi. Bella solids are also good.
Re: What's a good black fabric?
Belly? Really? Don't quite know how I managed that typo. Of course I meant Bella. Ask Karen, she'll tell ya, all about those little fuzzies all over the place.

Clueless me. I thought, "Belly. Ooh, that must be a brand I haven't heard of. I better look that one up."
Thanks for the clarification!
BTW since the original BOM fabric was Robert Kauffman, I bought the Kauffman black. Ooh, is it rich!

That's what I was going to suggest before I saw your post. That way everything works together.
One of the things I've recently started doing is gathering solid jelly rolls to have on hand for borders. So very handy and good to do when on sale at MSQC. Wish I would have thought of it a long time ago. Old mind at work here though.
Re: What's a good black fabric?
I always use Kona Black, so all of my blacks will be the same...
