You certainly could but just be aware that most if not all home dec fabric has a teflon coating to make it fade proof. This will wash out and so might some of the color since it is not really designed to be washed.
The lining that is 100% cotton should make good backing, here again I would wash it first. I have made my design wall from drapery interlining and it is doing well. I plan on using some for the batting in a quilt but will wash it first so any shrinking will be under control.
I wish I had saved my fabric books but for some reason the distributor wanted them back.
