Re: Disappearing Four Patch
I recommend you not use the flannel for the top, but it would be great as a backing. The D4P is a bit tricky, especially if you are using charms squares. If you decide to use the flannel as the backing, be sure to wash and dry it to pre-shrink it.

I totally agree! The center squares are so small. They would be difficult to work with unless a lot od sizing/ starch is used on them. It is a pretty pattern, but is challenging to complete using charm squares. Some have done it with larger squares, and found it much easier to do it.
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
Thank you ladies. I've already started the blocks and will go ahead and finish it even though I'm not thrilled with it. I will not use flannel again for this pattern though lol. I do want to do it again in cotton though. I really like the pattern. Maybe Batiks :)

Re: Disappearing Four Patch
Well the nightmare of the disappearing four patch with flannel is done and yuck! I really do love the pattern and I will do this again but with cotton - ha. The first pic is just the panel. You will see my numerous mistakes both in sewing that flannel together and the quilting - Lesson Learned :)

Re: Disappearing Four Patch
Your quilt is very pretty and I love the colors. Working with flannel and that pattern must have been difficult. How did you manage to keep your sanity with the stretch in the fabric and all those joins to line up? I doubt that I would have had the patience, but you certainly did a beautiful job!
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
It isn't you... It's the flannel..... I only use flannel in a top if the pieces are fairly large, or very straightforward cuts... No triangles or circles... I once tried to make a quilt out of flannel triangles.... What a mess!
I do love to use flannel on the backs of quilts, though....Especially baby quilts...
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
Congratulations on pushing through and finishing. It looks very cozy and warm and pretty!

If you look close those points are not that straight :( I didn't have my sanity before this quilt LOL, but it wasn't easy to finish it considering the points were driving me crazy.
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
It looks much better than what I imagined when I rea dyour post and I bet it feels lovely. I think you did a great job! Imagine the surprice that a quilt like that is SOFT!
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
Your quilt turned out beautiful! I hear you on the flannel! I just this morning finished putting the binding on a flannel window pane disappearing 9 patch! I cut everything on the straight of grain but it was still a lot of stretching going on no matter how careful I was. I'm going to take pictures and see how to post a picture.
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
I think you did a wonderful job!
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
I see nothing but a wonderful, beautiful, cozy quilt! Your perseverance paid off!
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
Nice job! I love flannel quilts but I'd bet it was tough with those lines. Really nice job.
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
I think it's lovely & I didn't see any mistakes,,, as everyone here has said, flannel is tricky in small pieces..
The D4P is really nice in batiks. There is a group doing them now, check it out. BTW this pattern is much easier in100% cotton :)
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
Okay, I looked for mistakes but couldn't see any. I honestly think this is a very pretty quilt. I'm almost done with a flannel quilt for 3-month-old DGS... will post pics when I'm done.
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
Oh my goodness!! I think it is stunning!! Looks so cozy and comfortable!!!
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
It looks good to me! Way to go on sticking with it and finishing your top. I love the pink!

I doubt the ones you give it to will even notice what you perceive as mistakes or imperfections. Isn't that what makes hand made items unique?
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
You did a great job! It is really pretty. What size squares did you start with?

5" squares to start with. My niece picked the material because she wanted the animal print. I didn't like the animal print all together especially for a baby. So I decided to do the D4P and add the white to break up the prints. I liked the layout much better that way. I will do this again with cotton as I love the pattern.
Re: Disappearing Four Patch
I have to agree that it is a beautiful quilt, love the different shades of pink. I work alot with the soft flannel and sometimes I too want to tear my hair out getting everything to match up, only problem I seemed to have with flannels is the seams tend to come apart after washing
