    Default Question for Star Lover

Hello! I am new to posting on this site and am not sure what I am doing! Lol. I have been a lurker for a while totally enjoying all the wonderful info generously shared here.

I still consider myself to be a newbie because even though I have been quilting a few years, only have limited time to spend on it.

I posted a question earlier on a previous thread about patterns for layer cakes but not sure the person I addressed it to will see it because it is an older thread and is rather buried in that thread posting.

Anyway, I have a question for Star Lover (or anyone else that might know the answer) that I really hope doesn't sound dumb!! You posted a picture of a quilt using a wedge with a layer cake. Did you use a certain ruler and pattern for it? I love your quilt, both color and pattern!

Thanks in advance for any help!!

If you specifically want StarLover to answer your question, or have her see it a bit faster, you can send her a Private Message by clicking on her name and then clicking Private Message in the menu box that appears.

I'm not sure which thread you posted in previously, so not real sure about what you are asking.

I think it might be this thread.
Cake Layer pre cuts......haven't heard much about them...

I don't think you need a templet for it. It's just cut in half on an angle. Did that help?

This would be really cute with a charm pack. Hummm

Hi Janice. This was a simple quilt to make, I think you'll have fun with it. The pattern is called Against the Rail by Karly Alexander of Saginaw street quilt company.
Straight Out of Line ruler is what was used for this quilt. I found it in my local store, but when I tried to google this is the only place that showed up...

There's a product video that shows how to use the ruler.
I looked in the store listings here and didn't see it.
If you need any more help, let me know or send a message.

The quilt could be made without this ruler, but you'd probably have to tape a diagonal line across your square ruler to get all the angles to match.
Much easier with the straight out of line one.
It has the normal markings for different sizes, so you could make it with anything from charm packs on up to 10 inch layer cakes.

After seeing that ruler, reminds me of a block I did for the BQ3 pattern.

If it was me, I would take 2 layer cake squares, place one on top of the other, measure in 4" from the top left and 4" from the bottom right and cut using a long ruler. And swap the cut pieces around. That's how I did it for the BQ3 pattern - did not need a special ruler. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...99.Up2dVKtriQU

One more thought, I made this after a friend had done one with a beautiful line of bird fabrics. Mine was bright and fun, hers was more of a calming and beautiful look. Lots of different prints would do well with it.

Just a thought, if you have the large tumbler template, line the center of the template up with the left side of the layer cake and cut it.

Great idea Vonnie, I loved that the blocks only had one cut each in this quilt!
