Thanks.....
The only"quilt" I made was a memory quilt for my dad.....in1994. When he died, I gave each one of the family members a 12 x 12 inch square, some markers and asked them to "draw" a memory of Grandpa for me, and when they were done to bring me their "square". I then sewed them together, ranging from My mom to us three girls and then the 12 grandkids, and the kids made a Square for dad's beloved cat and dog too....I then took some Christmas flannel and sewed it to the back ( Christmas was dad's favorite holiday ) .....when I took it to the funeral home, I was just going to lay it in the casket with daddy, and the funeral director who was a good friend of his, told me to wait, and he came back with two Plant stands, a 1x3 pc. of wood and some thumb tacks. He placed the plants stands about 24 inches apart, and then sat down, and put the "quilt" on the 1x3 board, placing thumb tacks every 6-10 inches. when he was done, he placed the 1 x 3 board across the plant stands.....so that the "quilt" was hanging....
When this funeral director turned around, he hugged me, and told me he had never seen such a wonderful tribute.

This was the first ( and only ) quilt I made....and 19 yrs later, my interest has peaked to make some quilts.
Again, thanks so much for your info

I didn't know about sashing so I just sewed all the squares together. I think they were about 6x6 inch squares..maybe 8x8 at the largest. I cut out the pieces and appliqued them onto the white with interfacing behind it.
