I have been interested in Sun Bonnet Sue Quilts for a number of years. My DH Terry's grandma made a Sun Bonnet Sue quilt top 45-50 yrs ago, but it was never quilted. My MIL gave me the quilt top several years ago, and I haven't done anything with it. I was thinking about making pillows with the top, and then making a quilt for my great niece who loves re-runs of Little House On the Prairie, so I am thinking about making the quilt for her, along with the pillows ( from the older quilt. ) Because the quilt top is so old, I am afraid to do much with it. I suppose I should wash it too....Has anyone had this experience ?

I ran across a magazine that was published in 2005, called Quilt Almanac ( by the editors of Quilt magazine ) with a Sun Bonnet Sue pattern along with instructions.

My question ( sorry about going on and on ) is has anyone made one of these quilts, and if so, would you share any info for me ? The magazine said that this is a great pattern for a beginner.....and I really would like an opinion, is it really a good pattern for someone who has only made a couple of quilted bags, and a runner ? ( I am just getting ready to make another bag for my sis-in-law for her B-day.

If anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it.
