Default why is my sashing .............?

I am on my 3rd quilt, and everytime I lay them out to baste spray the backing, batting and the top, my sashing is ruffly! I always have to undo it, stretch it, resew it, and trim off about an inch. What am I doing wrong in the first place??? frustrating!!

    Sashing or Border?

Actually, in either case you are probably stretching it as you sew. Make sure the sashing or border strip is on the TOP of the rest of the quilt when you are sewing, not against the feed dogs.

I had the same problem with my first quilt, it is not fun. I have found that the quality of material that I used made a difference. I had a cheap solid from joann fabric and it ruffled, I ended up taking it off and not using a border. When use materials from a quilt shop or even some of the better ones from joann's I never have the ruffle issue.

    Sashing or borders?

For the best measurement Only measure across the center for a width and Only down the center for your vertical. Then when you add the borders that is the exact measurement and you may have to "ease" the quilt into that. Pinning and determining which side needs more pull against the feed dogs. I know there are a few places that say take 3 measurements and take the average, but this will get you wavy borders too many times !

Good luck and let us all know if this helped we'd love to see one that works just right for you next!
