JANOME DC5100

I am wondering if anyone has this machine and if it is a good machine. I want to get it but want to make sure it is reliable and durable for quilting like a queen/king size quilt. it is on sale QVC. Mahalo

I can't tell you anything about this particular machine but I can tell you that Janome machines are user friendly hard working machines.

Why not check the reviews on Amazon? That's my major research engine - besides here of course. You can also compare prices on Amazon. QVC I'm not so sure of. My local Janome dealer pretty much matches prices - or close to it and he offers free lessons for life and he does his own repairs. That's how he stays in business. I like the security of having him close by (if 15 miles is close). If my machine ever broke at a crucial moment (not that it would - it IS a Janome after all I wouldn't wait for weeks to get it repaired.

Howdy AlohaSandy, this is horselover, but I guess I should put my name, Teresa, I responded to being friends and I hope I did it right--I'm still learning my way around this site--I have the Janome DC 5100. I love it--- its not the first Janome I've had, I bought the MC8000(I think that was the number) in 1991, and used it up until a few months ago..I passed it along to a friend of mine that is into all the memory cards and all the things this machine had..I'm not utilizing the features on it like I used to and wanted something simple(think that comes with age)--not that the Memory Craft was complicated--very easy!! I decided on the DC5100 after going to the Janome website and reading and comparing the different machines to see which fit my needs and this was the one.

I know you said that you found one on sale and thats good but I would advise you because this is what I would call a big purchase item at a store that is a Janome authorized dealer....they will be trained to show you how to use all the features and be able to service the machine if need be....and the reason----I had two things that happened to my machine after I had sewed on it for a few days---that was really no fault of the machine but had I bought it somewhere that wasn't local and you had to ship it off to be fixed you would be without the machine and all the shipping would most likely not be too good...I saw where Genny said they were user friendly ---she is so right! And absolutely they are hard working machines---I bought mine at a quilt shop in Waco, Texas--closest place for me to go.....this quilt shop is owned by husband and wife and before they could be a Janome dealer they had to go to training about the machines and the husband was trained on how to fix a problem--if there were any other than bringing it in each year to do a complete cleaning and oil it if it needed.

Boy, that was an awful lot to tell you that I will always buy Janome sewing machines---after I got my machine I started doing research on the "hem stitcher" Janome has--and bought one from the same place---and I love it!! My next purchase will be the Janome serger--I have a Brother and it has served me well but it isn't as heavy duty as the Janome....Well, I hope this helped you in your decision...sorry I'm go long winded...are you as addicted to MSQC as I am---every morning I look to see whats the "Daily Deal" I could order one or two or even three of every pre-cut they have in stock!! Thank you for wanting to be friends and hope your family had a blessed Christmas and that the New Year is full of wonderful surprises!

Hi, my name is Teresa(horselover@hughes.net) and just read your reply to Aloha Sandy---to bad I didn't read it before I wrote her a book about how Janome is the only machine I'll buy and everything you said--but used way too many words ---well, guess I'm living up to what they say about Texans---we talk a lot and brag real bad--ha! But braggin' on Janome ain't braggin"---its a fact, right!!

Hi, I have this machine. I would say it was a great sewing machine for sewing, even for quilting. But I have not done a Queen or King size quilt so really can't say if it will do one. I do have one complaint against this particular machine though. It will skip stitches going over to many seams connecting together. I was making the pillowcases and when going over the seam where the cuff, the accent piece and main body of the pillowcase meet it would skip a bunch of stitches and then sew normally. But if I flip the pillowcase over and sew in the opposite direction it would take the seam just fine. Maybe just a quirk on my machine. I love the stitches it has on it though and all of the other features.

I was also looking at this machine but found it did not have the Superior Feed System as some of the other models. I like all the stitches available on the machine. I just posted a topic on Product Discussions about the Janome 2012 and 2013. They are about $100 less than the DC5100 and they have the SFS but less stitches.

I have the kenmore 19233 - and I think it is the exact same machine as the janome dc5100, but is branded kenmore. If you go to allbrands.com website and look for it, they even market it as the same as dc5100. In Europe janome used to advertise this machine, and even used the exact same picture as was used here in the states for the kenmore. Anyhow, I've compared the manuals for the two machines... Identical. The specifications for the machines are the same. I bought mine used on ebay about 5-6 years ago, and have had no problems with it. It's got a lot of neat features. It currently sells on allbrands.com for $299.99 with 10 years parts and labor warranty. You can consider this... Unless you have your heart set on a janome.

I love that you gave me so much info on this machine I needed it. And you are not long winded lol. I have not purchased it yet it is such a big purchase for me that I have to sit on it for a few days lol and I am hoping it will go on sale or maybe they will give free shipping that would be wonderful since I am in Hawaii. As yes I am addicted as much as you are to the daily deals lol since the time difference we get them here by 10 pm yea, lol. Thanks again.

I don't understand how a Kenmore I the same as Janome??? and has all the same features and warranty there has to be some difference or maybe not I really am confused now geez.
