The lap blankets/quilts the girls at church are....I believe....about 40x40. It really depends on how long your son's legs are when sitting down, and how wide his lap is.... You don't want it to drag on the floor, or get caught up in a wheel, but you still want it go feel cuddly.
What pattern and fabrics/colors will you be using?
I am so sorry that your son must use a wheel chair... I have a very good friend who has battled MS for years... She is also in a wheelchair now...
God Bless...

I make wheel chair quilts for some of the folks at the senior centers that are in wheel chairs. Here is the general rule of thumb I use.
36″ x 36″ to 38″ x 47″ or 91cm x 91cm to 97cm x 119cm – adding ties is sometimes a good idea, so they don’t slip off
Thank you,

36" would be the smallest width and length. It depends on the size of the person and how much of the body you want to cover.
There are some pictures in my album and I think I put the sizes in the description.

I will be using 100% Marines cotton fabric for top not sure about back yet. Thanks for helping. Don't want him to know til it is done so will have to guess his leg size.
Thank you each one for helping with this question. I always know answers come quickly here. Love this group. Hugs around
You might be able too estimate the length based on the inseam size of his pants or jeans? I know my son wears a 32 inseam and then you could guesstimate tthe additinal needed from crotch to waist?
