Re: How to use my X-mas present ?
Mmmmmm .... I love to do One Block Wonders. But it's pretty important to buy the book (by Maxine Rosenthal).
I'll give you a really quick overview of how you do One Block Wonders (OBW), then you can look in my album to see one (looks like flower bouquets on a black background).
-Buy six repeats of fabric. OBW quilts work best with fabrics with a large repeat, 12 inches or more. So if your fabric pattern repeats every 22 inches, you'll buy about 4 yards of fabric (22 × 6 = 132" or just under 4 yards).
-Cut your fabric into six pieces that are roughly identical. Cut from selvedge to selvedge.
-Using flower-head pins (flat), pin these six layers together so they match EXACTLY.
-Slice this stack of fabrics into 3-1/2 inch strips lengthwise.
-NOW you get to use your new Christmas present: Cut each six-layer strip into 60 degree triangles. You put the ruler "sideways" onto your strip, cut, flip the ruler around, cut, back and forth and back and forth until the whole strip is sliced into 60-degree triangles
After cutting, you sew half hexies, have a lot of fun playing them out, then sew the half hexies together in strips. Of course, you keep the whole hexagon together in your layout, but by only sewing half hexies, you never have to sew a Y-seam.
As I said, it's pretty important to buy the book, but the resulting quilts are stunning.

Are we noticing a pattern here?
