One block takes five pieces, but you only make three seams and you have a diamond laying on top of four adjoining squares with what looks like a cathedral window. I remember seeing that video. It was interesting that that can be done. I dont' like buying the pre cuts simply cause I am a structured, tailored color person. The pack have like 1 of each of 24/42 different colors/patterns...that is to much for me!!! I only buy charms if they are a fantastic price and save them for my grand daughter. She is 7 and I have been working with her to sew and make quilts...she has made 2 so far and a pillowcase. We dont' live to close to each other but I get her about 3 times a year for a day or so. THat is why I thought the cake layer. CT had 2 packs on sale for so cheap, I couldn't resist and I thought at least I can get 4 HST's out of one layer and I love making HST's as the options are seemingly limitless as to the designs you can make with them with just a simple rotation of the HST piece.
