I got the clear dots at Walmart in the sewing section...just peel off and stick on the back of any ruler. Works quite well...except when you want it to slide !

You are definitely not alone on the uneven fabric problem. I am finding that I not only have to cut-and-rip fabric but then also have to trim off the ripped edge before I can start to use it. It is very frustrating. Just a couple of weeks ago I ordered a "quilt labels" fabric panel and when it arrived it was cut so unevenly that they had actually cut off the edges of three of the labels in the panel! I couldn't believe it (I called and the company is sending a replacement, but how did the person not even notice that part of the panel had been cut off because the cut was so uneven?!) Regarding the slippery rulers--I have gotten the little dots from MSQC and also from amazon and they all work fine, but are a little pricey in my opinion. I have heard that it helps to keep part of your hand on the ruler and part of it on the fabric (on Craftsy I think) but I always forget to try doing that.

Whenever I saw those June Tailor Shape Cut rulers in the store, I always dismissed them as being extraneous but then at the urging of a friend and seeing some of the comments on this forum, I relented and bought one. Oh my gosh, this ruler has changed my life and is now my favorite tool. I don't ever want to quilt without it. It has made my cuts uniform and perfect. I have so much less waste, I can't believe it. But you are absolutely correct, you have to iron your fabric first. Only takes a few seconds but pays big dividends in the long run.
It's all fun and games until the bobbin runs out.
I put sandpaper dots on my 6x24.... When you cut with it....go halfway up.....stop.....walk your hand up.....finish cutting.
My fav ruler is my F&P 8x14... It's so much more useful than my 6x12.... I got it with a coupon at Joann's....of course.
