    Default Quilting for a newborn

I am doing the quilting right now on this for a friend's grandson. It's from a kit at Connecting Threads. In their pictures, they seem to have done SITD and then extra straight line quilting in the navy and a few lines in bright colored thread between the striped rows.

    Kinetics Quilt Kit from ConnectingThreads.com

I thought of doing the same, but now I'm not sure. I have finished SITD on the striped rows, and echoed once around he name, although it isn't shown in my picture. The quilting as it stands is 2 1/2" apart, and my cotton batting only calls for 4". Since I know it will hold together just fine, and it will be for a soft, new baby, what do you all think?

He isn't due until 1/25, so I'm not in a rush, but I would like to finish because I have a pretty badly sprained wrist.
