Re: Rotary Blade Sharpener
I have a sharpener, but not the one you pictured. I do like mine, but it is limited. It will sharpen a blade that is a bit dull, but never back to the original sharpness. Still, sharp enough to get a bit more use out of the blade, and given how expensive they are, that is a good thing! :icon_bigsmile:
Now, if you have a nick in the blade, these sharpeners will not fix that. But I think they are worth it to get a bit more life out of a blade, so I really do find mine useful and worth the price I paid for it.
Re: Rotary Blade Sharpener
I have that one and I love it. It does a good job and I can resharpen the same blade 2 or 3 times and it cuts nearly as good as the original blade.
Re: Rotary Blade Sharpener
There was a long thread on this talking about that one.

I tried to buy one from amazon and they won't ship to Hawaii?
Re: Rotary Blade Sharpener
Lorie,
Thanks....I guess I should look around a little to see if there's a comment on something I am asking about prior to posting a thread huh ?
The thread you pointed out was helpful. I really think I am going to order the sharpener from Amazon. Like everything else I do, if I become interested I go "all out" purchasing a lot to do the things I am interested in. ......I am thinking about getting some more shelves in my craft / sewing room ( I started paper crafting almost 11 yrs ago, shortly after the death of my DH Terry.....While I have sewn for years, I have never thought about quilt making until now. I did join MSQC's forum in April of 2011, but have been ill for several months, and have just begun to feel better, which sparked my interest in quilting once again.
I just finished a small quilt for a baby and a couple of the receiving blankets from the tutorials

It's hard to find stuff in the subject field. I just happened to remember that thread. lol Don't be afraid to ask stuff:)
I love working with paper and started to scrapbook, but after a trip to Walt Disney World and making a book everyone was saying your not done yet? It was taking over my whole sewing room too! So I put it away. I did finish that one though. :)
Re: Rotary Blade Sharpener
Thanks Lorie,
About Scrapbooking / paper crafting. I don't do much scrapbooking, however I make a lot of cards. I haven't purchased a greeting card since 2003.....of course people tell me that I have much more wrapped up in my stamping stuff than if I had just went out and purchased a card, but I just can't see the cost of cards in a store, and not only that, but my cards are originals.....you wouldn't see another one like it ! I will admit that I make 6-8 cards of the same kind to have cards on hand ( nobody I send cards to realizes that they might get the same card as another friend of mine ! ).
I do make card videos and put them on my blog
http:\\www.sugarssmilinpapercrafts.blogspot.com
I try to make a video at least 2-3 times per month, although I have been lurking here in this forum a little too much and haven't made a video in quite awhile, so I should get busy !!!
Years ago, my mom-in-law taught me how to do the cross-stitch on plastic canvas to make Photo Albums ( she makes the most gorgeous Wedding Albums you ever saw ) . My DH Terry enjoyed the hobby so much he took it over, and made an album for each one of our kids with their school colors (and mascot ) and he also made one for each one of our nieces & nephews in their school colors. He also made each one of the nephews & nieces a wedding album ( my MIL had already made each one of our kids an album for their wedding and packed them away ). I have one unfinished pink / white Wedding Album that DH was working on at the time of his death, which I probably should get out and finish.
I love learning new crafts. about a year ago, I stumbled on how to knit videos on YouTube, and decided to refresh my knitting skills. This year, everyone that gets a Christmas ( adult women ) gift from me will get 2 dishcloths & the dish drainer towel that was featured here along with their Christmas gift.
Again, thanks Lorie.

Re: Rotary Blade Sharpener
I've not had good luck with sharpeners. I bite the bullet and use new blades every time.
Re: Rotary Blade Sharpener
I just bought one today at Joann's for $20 (but I used a 50% off coupon) I tried it really quick on the blade I have in the cutter, sharpened it and then used it and it didn't cut right . Like it was skipping a couple threads. It didn't do this before I sharpened it! But then again, I was in the midst of making something and just tried it really quick so I might not have done it right or enough. I'll let you know. At least I can return it if it doesn't work!
Re: Rotary Blade Sharpener
I find that I have to run it for maybe a full minute, never timed it so maybe less, but a lot longer than it says. I also hold the lid a little tighter, but not so tight the blade doesn't spin. you can hear and tell if it is. and don't forget to use oil on top and bottom stones. I sometimes turn the blade over and do it again, although that isn't necessary because of the stone on both sides.

Re: Rotary Blade Sharpener
I do the same thing, redcaboose...If I am starting a new craft, I go all out and buy everything there is to get. I recently started quilting and had to have a "Go Baby" I bought it and 2 dies for it about 2 months ago and have never touched it.. I did not realize that you can sharpen rotary blades. Will have to check into that, too!
