I made a lap throw recently for a senior at a local nursing center. She is also suffering from that form of arth.
The top was flannel, the middle was w & n and the backing was flannel. She is loving it.
I was tempted to double line it but was afraid of the weight. The flannels seemed to work fine with the batting and was the easiest thing in the world to hand quilt.
