Re: Designer 1 help
I dont know anything about that machine, but maybe you could try looking on eBay for the sampler disk? Good Luck!!

Re: Designer 1 help
Is this machine the Husquavarna? I think that is the one my mom and I have. I will double check later for you - heading to work soon. We use it mostly for the embroidery part of it. I do have a Janome also. If this is the same machine, I got mine at Saftlers. We are in Mass. Where are you? Send me a message if you want and we can chat later! Betty

Re: Designer 1 help
I mentioned your problem to my mom and she may check in later also to see if we can give you a hand. I have a great lady that may be able to help and some great websites to get designs from! Check back later!

Re: Designer 1 help
Yes it is a Husquavarna. When I bought the machine the man was an older man and he said the his wife messed up the disks so he called the place that he bought it from and they sent him new disks. But that has been about 7 or 8 years ago. His wife passed a few years ago and his new wife didnt sew. I have the other disks but if you and your mom could help me that would be fabulous.............. I live in Ga. Thank you, thank you thanks you so much :D

Re: Designer 1 help
Hi, I am institches Mom, and yes that is the machine we have. First, have you contacted the man to ask if he could find the disks? Second the sampler is just a disk with some sample embroidery designs on it. You do not need that disk to use the machine. You can buy embroidery designs on a lot of different sites. The one we use the most is embroidery library (emblibrary.com). Do you have a computer that uses floppies? If you do, you can download the designs onto a floppy and use that in your machine.
We also learned the hard way, that the embroidery arm has to be on the machine in order for you to see and use the disks, so the disk you have may be fine but you are trying to view it without the embroidery arm being attached.
If you don't have a computer that uses floppies, don't dispair, I bought an external floppy drive for about $30 at Best Buy and use that. The lady we bought the machine from works at a local fabric store and she used to transfer the designs for us, but then I bought 3D Embroidery software (old style - newer ones available now) and use that to transfer designs.
Does any of this help? Do you have specific questions? I hope you get this going for you because we love it.

Re: Designer 1 help
Hello sunflower, nice to meet you :D
Yes that was one of my questions, did I even need the sample disk. I have put the embroidery arm on but the disk kept saying Files not found.
I did try to contact the man and he said that he couldnt find the disks. The other disks for the lettering ( the Palace script, Clarendon and the Kalligrahia) how do I get those to work? I know that I need to put the disk in but once I do that I dont know where or what to do. I can type in the first letter of what I want but it wont let me type in another letter.
I do have an external drive to copy designs, I'll check out the emblibrary, thank you :D
Thank you sooooooooooooo much for the help - since I cant hug you I will just throw you a hug ((((((( sunflower)))))) :D thanks so much :)

Re: Designer 1 help
Hi Kim- Glad mom was able to give you some info. I figured that maybe between the 2 of us, we can help. When you are in Emblibrary, click on a design that you like. To the left of the design it shows the price, the size of the design, the amount of stitches and then there is the little box that says pick your format. For us, we click HUS so when they forward the design to us it is in the format for our machine. Then Joanne (mom) will put it on her computer to transfer to a disc for the machine. Does this help? Also, the people at Emb LIbrary are fabulous if you have questions. They have helped me before also.

Re: Designer 1 help
HI-
When you put the disc in the side slot, then push the little disc button on the bottom right that shows on the screen. This will take a minute - we can hear it "whirling". Then it will show a menu screen where you will be able to chose which size font you want - I think there are 3 sizes. See if this works.
-
Re: Designer 1 help
I just re-read your last question. Do you mean you are trying to put the letters together for a name? Did he give you the manual for the machine? If not, you should contact husquavarna's site to see if they can get you a manual.
-
Re: Designer 1 help
As institches mentioned, once you put the disk in your embroidery machine, an icon will show on the bottom right corner of the screen. Push that icon (looks like black file disks). Takes a minute to come up, and will show a menu screen. Each disk can have up to 4 menus. Push the button for menu 1 and it will show you the designs on that menu, choose the one you want and press that picture and it will open up on the screen.
Did you get the instruction book with the machine? If not, ask him if he can find it for you, or see if you can order one from the website. If it's going to take a while to get we could probably scan some info from our book and e-mail to you. Let us know.
Give it a try to see if you can open the menus.

Re: Designer 1 help
One other thing, if you are trying to read the disk on your computer it probably won't work without the embroidery software program. I bought mine from a lady who was upgrading to a new program. May be able to find one on e-bay. It is amazing what you can do with it.

Re: Designer 1 help
Hi institches and sunflower,
institches yes when I try and put a name in it only lets me put one letter at a time, it wont do a whole name (with the disks). I have a book but it seems to be missing something. The pages are in order but it doesnt explain enough it seems. I will keep looking. I downloaded a book mark design today and I finally got to work on it, I will try and post some pictures of it.
Thank you both so much for your help...... ((((((((( institches and sunflower))))))))

Re: Designer 1 help
Hi Kim
To be honest, I found it confusing to try and set up a name. The book was confusing to me. I can do it but it takes me some time. I will lookover the book tomorrow to refresh my memory and try to help you out. Can't wait to see your bookmark. We have some designs for them but haven't tried them yet. We have made the lace ornaments which come out really nice. Have a great night!

Re: Designer 1 help
That would be awsome institches. I just wish there was some way that I could repay you and your mom for all of the personal attention that you have given me. Thank you both sooooo much :D

Re: Designer 1 help
Kim, we were beginners too, at one time, and are just paying forward the help we got from others.
The book is over Betty's house so I'll have to wait for her to give you instructions. I know there is a way to pick the letters, put them together and save them so they will stitch out together, but without the book I can't explain it to you. I do have the embroidery software on my computer so I can do it here and save to disk and bring over to use on the machine, but that won't do you any good at this point. We'll get back to you...

Re: Designer 1 help
Kim, I have a Designer 1 and will help you as much as I can too. I never had any luck setting up lettering on the machine itself, it works much better with the software on your computer, set up your word or name and load it on your floppy. If you downloaded designs from the internet to use, you must have software to load it on a floppy?? Designs I have purchased on the internet have all been HUS version-some PES versions will work as well but not all of them, the only designs I have that are SHV are disks that I have purchased from the Husq/Varna dealer. I have purchased from Emb Library and they are nice designs, but most are very stitch intensive and can be a bit tricky to stitch out so let us know if you need advice on stitching anything out.

Re: Designer 1 help
Thank you Lola, can I type it into Microsoft word and save it to a disk and load it like that ?
-
Re: Designer 1 help
HI Kim-
sorry I didn't get back yesterday. We were outside all day getting things going. I agree with Lola. I find it hard to use the discs they provide to do names. It was confusing. It is much easier to use the computer software. My mom's came with tons of fonts in it so you can make some nice designs.

Re: Designer 1 help
"Thank you Lola, can I type it into Microsoft word and save it to a disk and load it like that ?"
Kim, no you would have to use the software.
How did you download and stitch the designs you stitched out?
Did your machine come with a program that you loaded onto your computer?
The Husq/Viking programs are names such as Customizing, Customizing Plus, 3D and 4D. The Customizing/Plus would be on floppies and the 3D and 4D would be on CD.

Re: Designer 1 help
I downloded buzzdemo............. but my machine did not come with anything from viking for the computer. Maybe I can use that buzz software ?
-
Re: Designer 1 help
Yes, I think you can....there is also another program out there that I think you can use if Buzz doesn't meet your needs, the other one has fonts and things you can buy to build on the software, but I can't think of the name right now.....doesn't that just figure!
I will let you know when I think of it or look it up.....Embird is what it's called. I don't have personal experience with either of them
though, but there are many many groups out there for support. Let me know if you are interested in some sites that sell great designs at great prices.
-
Re: Designer 1 help
sure Lola tell me the sites :) thanks alot. I tryed the emnird software and it was confusing. :(
-
Re: Designer 1 help
I think that I accidently figured it out............ and I do mean accidently, I just kept poking buttons until what I wanted came up. :D
We will know more later :D
-
Re: Designer 1 help
Kim, looks like you are doing great. Saw your pictures. Isn't it fun?
I need to get to work, but will still look up how to do words on the embroidery machine because I know we have done that.
Sometimes I figure things out accidently too LOL, as long as it works for you.

Re: Designer 1 help
Hi Kim, finally got to check out the book and we had to set up names for some towels we were embroidering.
1) Insert the font disk that you want to use.
2) At the top of the screen, click on PROG
3) Click on menu and when it comes up chose the size you want (ex: 20 mm)
4) Click on the first letter of the name (EX: J) this will be a capital letter - if you want all caps, just continue chosing the letters in the name. You will see them at the top of the screen spelling it out. If you need to change a letter, hit the DEL button to the left of the screen. If you want lower case letters for the rest of the word/name, down at the bottom click on the small a and finish spelling the word/name.
5) When the name or Word is finished, click on OK on the left side of the screen.
6) Important - remove the disk with the letters on it and put in another disk that you can save it to.
7) Up at the top of your screen click on the REP button - it will beep at you and ask if you want to save it. Say yes and it will give you a location on the disk that it is saving it too.
You are done - you can now put in your hooped material and press go and it will embroider it. Try it on a scrap piece of fabric first. Our towels came out great. Let me know how it works for you.
I am going in for surgery Tuesday so may not be on for a couple of days, but I'll check back to see how you did. Good luck with it.

Re: Designer 1 help
hi there... i too have the D1....do you have the "book" that goes with your machine.... that is very important... not sure if you can get one on the net thru Hus...if you have that book, you can probably figure out just about anything...
You do need to have "customizing" or some form of software to be able to stitch out anything that is not directly from Hus...
As for using the "disks" that came with... i think it's something like...
insert disk... press the "disk icon" on the screen... up will come the alphabet... you choose one letter at a time... (you might have to have the hoop attached while doing this).... it's a bit time comsuming... but if you have the book,,, it's pretty straightforward..
like i said... if it's not a design that you purchase in Hus format (or SHV or VIP, each being a label for the progression of formats as the machines get "newer") you will have to have software to "convert"... and "write" your floppy so that your machine can "read" it..
I know this is as clear as mud... but FIRST you must see if you have your instruction book... and which form of software you machine is capable of reading... (ie... needing to know what year yours is)..
I guess Saftler's is pretty popular on this site... LOL
i bought mine there as well....
