Default Jennie Doan's Big Star Quilt HST

Being a new quilter (working on my second quilt now) I love Jennie Doan's clear instructional videos. The Big Star Quilt youtube video shows a wonderful simple way to do half square triangles. Does anyone know if there is a formula of sorts to make different sizes of the HST? I guess my question is really how large does the large square need to be in order to make a certain size HST... I'm sorry if this isn't clear, but as I said, I'm new to this but love her technique. Any help would surely be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I just experiment, I've made them all sorts of sizes. Yesterday I used a 9 inch fabric square and got 6 inch HST's. I think Jenny said the 10 inch gave her 6.5 inch. in that tutorial. Didn't she? You can kind of guessimate that way...

Other ladies here have made that pattern with charms and I'm sure they will chime in for you on the size HST a 5 inch charms makes. Goodluck. Welcome to the forums!

Here's a chart to help you. Guest blogger series: half square triangles ? whip up

You'll have to experiment with inbetween sizes.

I did the math to figure out sizes when using Jenny's HST method. Here is the link to my results. http://forum.missouriquiltco.com/usernote.php?u=25623
