Default My question of the day ......

    Hi everyone,

I know this is an often visited topic....

I have been sewing machine shopping ..... I checked out the Husqvarna, Babylock, and Bernina plus I read many of your posts asking for advice. I understand that everyone has different skill levels and all that... so indulge me please and will you tell me your opinion on what special features you feel a quilter needs in a sewing machine? What do you have that you love and use, and what do you wish your machine had.

Thanks so much in advance, I appreciate your help
    Hugs

Hi from Michigan. I just purchased a new sewing machine last week. I have a Pfaff that I love but it did not have a large enough opening for quilting large quilts. I was always fighting to shove the material through the opening. So that is the first suggestion I have, make sure you have the largest opening you can afford to buy. My new Janome has a 9x5 and I love it. Second would be to have a needle down option so when you stop your needle stays in the material. A 1/4 inch foot is a must have. If you think you will be machine quilting a walking foot is also a good option. I'm sure some of the other gals will have more ideas, but these are just few that I could not live without. Hope this helps and Good Luck.

Straight stitch, zigzag stitch, adjustable stitch length and width, reverse, drop down feed dogs, one step button hole, and that is pretty much what I use on a regular basis. I have the overcast stitch that makes the applique look cute. But I could get by with just the zigzag/satin stitch on that.

I purchased the Janome Memory Craft 6500. If you're interested in it be sure to check the price on Overstock.com. They had the lowest price I could find.
