Not quite a "quilting" question I guess, but sewing related at least....

So ever since we got married (Sept. 2011) I've been debating what to do with my monster of a wedding dress. It's as big as a tent I'm pretty sure. Right now it's in my basement stuffed in a box, and DH sent MIL a picture of Tinkerbelle (one of our cats) sleeping in said box and she almost had a FIT! lol So I guess I need to cut that bugger up sooner rather than later. If it's still in that box when she comes to visit in July, I may be in trouble So what should I make? The whole thing is chiffon with some white-silky material underneath. Taffeta maybe? Not familiar with those types of fabric so I have NO idea! There's also a nice bit of pink embroidery that I'd like to preserve if at all possible, but I have no idea how. Any ideas ladies? We already have a Christening gown that was crocheted by DH's maternal grandmother who died when he was 3, so there's no way I'm replacing that. What else could I make? What would YOU make if someone handed you a whole bunch of chiffon and silky white fabric?

Here's a picture of the dress:

Also, most of those buttons have been removed and the front no longer has the ruching (?) so it's just smooth fabric from the waistband down. And YES, I'm sure I'm cutting it up lol MIL almost had a heart-attack when I first told her, but she's okay with it now because she'd rather I make something nice with it rather than have it sitting in a box forever never to be seen again.
