Default help!! Sewing quilt blocks on point - how?!?!?

All my blocks are done and squared and I am trying to sew them now...and I am really struggling to put them together.

I tried using my handy new book and well, I just can't figure it out!! ugh! Are there any tips or tricks to doing this!? I thought I would first hang them on the design wall which I did. I have 9 rows, 40 blocks alternating rows of 4 and 5 blocks.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to sew it! As I have 40 I've decided to use the side set triangle colour as a center block?? But I can't seem to figure out how to incorporate the triangles! I am starting to think I may not be smart enough to do this!! Help??

I tend to put things together in rows - your may be diagonal rows since you have them on point. You can do pairs and then join pairs up until your row is together. Once I have the rows together, then I sew row to row in pairs and then join 2 pairs, etc. Hope this helps! Lisa

help!! Sewing quilt blocks on point - how?!?!?-diagram.jpg

this is kind of what I drew out. There is a block in the center that I was going to make the same colour as the side set triangles....but only because I'm out of any of the other fabrics and have NO idea what else to do! I'm really struggling with this and I don't get it. ....probably the same reason I suck at playing with lego!

**sorry...I keep posting pics sideways! darn iPhone...but then when I try to fix it I end up with two pics!***

That is what I was going to suggest. Sew them in rows first then sew the rows together. I have never made a quilt on point so have no great advice in that area. Your diagram is perfect. Just sew them together the way you have them separated.

Your drawing is great. I think a block in the center that is the same as the side set triangles will look great. I would start with one of the "short" rows that have a triangle, a block and then another triangle - either the top right or bottom left in your drawing. Then work on the next row. Lisa

sorry...i'm not very good at describing this. I understand sewing in rows but then I tried to sew the triangle points and it was a mess. I think I need to really do it in rows including the triangles?

I drew some lines on your older picture as an example. You can add your setting triangles in to the rows as well. Once the rows are done, then sew the rows together.

Hey that's cool...did you use paint to do that?

You know what i don't like about that pic...is the two on the top left and bottom right...it's like they should only be one...which is why I incorporated a center block to give me 41 blocks total....I guess I will just plug along and hope it works! I see now what I did wrong!!! thanks!

Yes, you have to sew the setting triangles when you sew the rows. First row would be a setting triangle, block, setting triangle, second row would be setting triangle, 3 blocks, setting triangle, etc.

I know it's confusing, but you need to sew the setting triangles to each row as you begin to assemble your blocks, row by row. Do as the others have explained. Sew each row of blocks and then sew the rows together.
