Default Chevron Quilt and Jelly Roll Race Questions

In Jenny's tutorial, she said that one printed layer cake and one solid layer cake would make a queen size chevron quilt. How many blocks across and down?

I love Jenny's tutorials - she makes everything look so easy. However, I'm having a difficult time understanding the Jelly Roll Quilt Race. I get how to attach the strips, cut off 18 inches, then bring up the bottom and sew one long seam, making 2 rows. My question is, what do you do afterwards? The tutorial is SO fast, I can't see what comes after the first two rows! Are there any written directions out there?

Thanks so much from a newbie quilter!!

I think the pattern you mean is in the magazine....
2 layercakes and some fabric for borders makes a 86"x 98,5" quilt, block size is 12,5" and you make 42 blocks.
6 blocks across and 7 blocks tall

    I hope this helps!

As for the Jelly Roll you keep bringing the end of your strips up and sew them together until it is done. The only cut you make is the original 18 inches and the very last cut from your very last strip. I don't remember how many rows it is but if you go to Jean Sewing Machine she has great info on the Jelly Roll quilts in her user notes.

Your 2 rows get sewn together to make 4. Your 4 get sewn together to make 8. Your 8 get sewn together to make 16...
You do have to cut the folded end of the doubled row each time. The 18 inches you cut off the beginning strip is so your seams are staggered and not all lined up in the same spot on the quilt top.

What you are missing is the cut you make after sewing your strips together, each time you finish a row you have to cut off the fold...does this help?
