Is that a block? It seems that by the time you get finished with a whole quilt, it will be confusing unless you finish it out to be a block and then make it a pattern you can follow to do a whole top. I'm not sure what is wrong with the coloring. If anything. I don't design my own blocks very often. Sorry.

Tessa, I agree that if you do a coupla blocks in these color choices, it might be easier to see. I like your color scheme though... Are you trying to wedge in the brightly colored squares between the black and white? I've never designed a quilt before either... What about going thru sample patterns on the net and getting some ideas?

I think your idea is good. Put them together as you have with the bright colors in the middle, surrounded by white. The only thing I would do differently is turn each row , or every other one a different direction. Like if the yellow one was turned the same way as the pink one it would make more sense. Do you understand what I am trying to say? I like the concept, but not necessarily the lay out.

Tessa....IMHO.....I love this concept. I would "stack" each one kinda like a chevron, but that is me. HOWEVER, as far as colors go they are great but i would take out the purple pattern one, for my eye it is to busy against the pattern of the blacks. I would replace it with a solid purple though.

A friend of mine recently did a day of the dead inspired quilt in B&W with purples, hot pinks and magenta, oranges and chartreuse and it was gorgeous. Your fabrics remind me of it, minus the yellow.

What about a double chevron like the one in my avatar?

My first thought is that you should put all your B/Ws on the 4 corner, with a bright/White in the middle? Second thought is to choose another print so you have the 4 prints on the outside with the solid surrounding a color in the middle?

    Quilter's Rules:
#1 Buy fabric - no matter how much you already have.
#2 Sew all day and all night - no cooking allowed.
#3 Start a new quilt before the last one is finished - must return to #1.

I wouldn't make it into a Chevron, I like the artsy look of what you have. But, just finish out the whole block so you have a distinct pattern to follow. Also, maybe make another that is different, so you can alternate them?
