Default Silk/satin (of immitation thereof!) used for binding...anyone used it?

I am making a pink and white and black zebra print quilt.Turning out great with the blocks. But my daughter said it'd be really cool if I used silk or sating for the bindings instead of just cotton. Then she said.. "oh for the sashings too!".

Has anyone used satin/silk in a quilt before? I think it would look and feel great, but having never used either, not sure how it would sew or work with a quilt...and of course it has to be machine washable.

    Any suggestions or comments?

Cheri -- I bought my daughter a "blankie" 35+ years ago... but it was a quilt with very wide Satin sashing as the outer border.
I would piece and quilt this first, then add any polyester like you would for a border after doing any squaring up.
Polyester or Satin, maybe a Casa Satin that is washable.

I have used the satin binding you can buy, way back when I first started quilting. It's held up wash after wash. No problems at all!

Thanks you guys... good info......I think I will use it for the binding..but what about using it for the sashings? I don't figure on using it for the back (or should/could I?) and the sashings in the middle of the blocks...you wouldn't "feel" it much even if you put the front to your body instead of the other way around. And what about the outer border? I figure satin for the border AND the binding? But...I think that it might look odd if the border/binding were shiney satin and the sashing between the blocks were just flat cotton black color.
