Flannel Fabric Source
I want to make a rag quilt and am looking for flannel fabric. Is there a good source for quality flannel fabric?

Re: Flannel Fabric Source
Hi Ann, I don't know about quality. I buy at JoAnn's because the flannel I use is mostly for kids and don't expect them to want it forever. It's on sale right now on line for 2.99/yard. Otherwise try your local quilt store. Moda makes a nice flannel at about $10/yard and now on sale at www.http://flannelqueen.com for $7.00/yard.
What do you plan on making. Oh yes, I see..a rag quilt. Can't wait to see if finished.

Hi Ann,
instead of flanel I use fleece.

Re: Flannel Fabric Source
I hate buying flannel and it ends up so yucky once its washed (pilly, shrinking, fading). After a couple times of getting bad flannel at the local fabric store or JoAnns, I only order it now. This lady on etsy carries really good flannel.

LOVE, love the Maywood Studios bundles. So soft, thick, washes up great, holds its colors. I have some sitting here waiting to be made into a quilt but I like it so much, I hate the thought of cutting it (yeah, I am a nut that way!)

Re: Flannel Fabric Source
I bought some flannel from Keepsake Quilting. It was for a backing on a quilt and I needed something that looked like a print from the front of my quilt. It was sort of expensive, but I thought it would be really good quality. Well...it wasn't. The weave was okay, but the brushed side that gives it the softness seemed sparse and when I washed it, it seemed to be thin in places and fuzzier in others. You could almost say that it pilled. I thought it looked so bad that I turned the right side toward the batting. I would recommend finding some flannel in a local store so you can see the quality.

I've used Wool and Needle flannel http://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/5198 to make a rag quilt. I loved the flannel so much I made two more out of it. I backed it with the quilter's flannel from Joann's. it's located with the specialty quilters fabric. It's holding up really well.

www.thousandsofbolts.com has quite a bit of different print, quilters quality flannel at a good price.
www.connectingthreads.com has wonderful flannel. I made my daughter a rag quilt last Christmas and that thing is super warm. Really nice flannel, no pilling.

Maywood Studios has the best flannel. I have made 2 queen size quilts out of it. It is heavy and good quality. Beautiful too.

Where do you buy it? The website says it only sales wholesale.
