Rum Raisin Bali Pops - pattern suggestions??
Well I happily won these in a bid but the pattern I was GOING to make calls for some cuts that are 2 and 5/8" triangles and the Bali Pops are only 2.5 inches. Since I am a total newbie I'm loath to attempt this and risk it not turning out! The pattern is from a quite old quilting magazine and is a Kalaidascope wall hanging, which is cool but again, doesn't work with the fabric widths.
Anyone have any suggestions for something to make with this? Anyone familiar with any tutes? Would this fabric be considered a "jelly roll"? It's not "rolled" but appears to be in the same lengths and widths as fabrics in a jelly roll.
TIA!
Wend :-)

It is the same as a jelly roll. A lot of the batiks come in strip sets and they call them pops for some reason.

Re: Rum Raisin Bali Pops - pattern suggestions??
Hmmmm...too chaotic for me. I'm really struggling with quilting because I LOVE it but I am such a "plain" person...I like symetry and bold simplicity...does that make sense? Like I am treally struggling with the patchy patch quilt I'm making now because it seems schizophrenic to me. I think it's mild OCD but not sure. So...while I love the colours...i think I need plain in it to break it up. Does that make any sense? Grannyan posted one a while ago that was what I like...I should look for that...I think it was a tube quilt?

Hiiii
I asked about the Rum Raisin bali pops last week too and got some good suggestions. I am finishing another quilt before I cut into the bali pops but here are a couple of suggestions. I like the 3 Dudes quilt... but also .... Jenny's Fence Rail w/diamonds.... Jenny's Friendship Braid and also the zipper quilt. I'm not positive of the name of the zipper quilt, but Jenny has a tutorial for it made with honey buns.
Best of luck and please show us your finished quilt

Those colors would make a gorgeous Summer in the Park quilt. Phoebe's Garden, Urban Cabin, Chinese Coin are some other easy, but pretty designs. If you don't care for a busy look, you might want to select a pattern that also calls for a solid, like muslin or black. Anytime you want to "tone down" a design, sashing is a good option.

This is one of my favorites. I just got the ruler for it. I think it would great with it.

I think Summer in the Park would be a good one because you can add in plain strips to tone it down some.
Re: Rum Raisin Bali Pops - pattern suggestions??
Lorie, your quilt blocks are beautiful! I love those colors, and it is not to busy for me.
Wendy, I think a Sumer in the Park would be beautiful. When you use a strip of white in between the colored strips, it will tone it down. There is a video they did for making that one.

If you like plain, a pretty classic is trip around the world.
