Default Any Math smarties out there??

    MATH makes my head hurt!!
But I am curious if this pattern would be able to be out of 20 fat quarters that I already have (other than the white)? It's ok if it's not the same size as the pattern. I bet its not as difficult to figure out than I am making it in my head. LOL

Are you talking about Simply Woven by Moda Bake Shop? It takes 2 full Jelly Rolls to make it this big. You can get 7 2-1/2" by 22 inch strips out of each fat quarter. You would need 80 strips to equal one jelly roll. I divided 7 into 80 and came out with something near 11, so you would need 11 fat quarters to equal one jelly roll, therefore, you would need 22 fat qarters to equal 2 jelly rolls. You are close!

I think this is right. More math experts want to chime in?

It took me 3 jelly rolls to make Simply Woven a queen size quilt plus some blocks for shams. Two would make it a full size.

I just printed off the pattern this morning, and it says the 2 jelly rolls make a generous twin size quilt. I want to make this so bad, I need some 40 hour days to get all my quilts done that I want to do! Each block is 12-1/2".

Hi Dena -- Glad you asked because I LOVE math.

The short answer is YES, you could cut the colored strips from the 20 fat quarters you have. In fact, if you are careful and precise, you could get all those strips from just 13 fat quarters.

    Now for the long answer.
    The pattern asks for-
-- (48) 8" strips: Using 3 fat quarters, cut parallel to the short side. Cut (24) 2.5" strips (these will each be 18" long). Cut these (24) strips into two 8" strips each.
-- (48) 12.5" strips: Using 3 fat quarters, cut parallel to the long side. Cut (16) 2.5" strips (each will be 40" long). Cut these 16 strips into three 12.5" strips each.
-- (96) 9.5" strips: Using 3 fat quarters, cut parallel to the long side. Cut (28) 2.5" strips (each will be 40" long). Cut these 28 strips into four 9.5" strips each.
-- (96) 11" strips: Using 4 fat quarters, cut parallel to the long side. Cut (32) 2.5" strips (each will be 40" long). Cut these 32 strips into three 11" strips each.

I think that I would be a little looser than the measurements I've given you, because you probably want to use all 20 colors that you have. So when I suggest using four fat quarters, you may want to use six or eight different colors just to mix up the colors more. Definitely think about using three different colors for that first set of 8" strips, because those get cut from the short side, not the long side.

Good luck! And please post a photo when you've made this quilt top. I love the pattern you've chosen.

    Does 2 + 2 = 7 help you at all?

You got the same thing I did as far as fat quarters = jelly rolls.

WOW!! Guitar Gramma you really do LOVE math. Thank you very much for your input I think I can do this. I definitely think I will pick up the slotted ruler to hopefully get them all cut.

Jean I was figuring out that way too.

I think pattern will work well with these and make a pretty quilt,at least I hope. LOL

Wow is right. I don't think I could ever sit down and figure that out!

Would one jelly roll make a toddler quilt? Or are some patterns just not made to be cut down?
