These are the 9 blocks for a baby quilt I have been asked to make.

I am in a bit of a quandry, I would normally buttonhole stitch round each dress, sleeve, bonnet and shoe with black thread, but I was wondering whether to do the shoes in black and then match the thread to the dress bonnet etc......what would you do????

It would look nice like that but will be a lot of thread changes-at least for me. i think black would be fine to use for everything, it would make it all stand out.

I'd use white for it all. The shoes are only a tiny bit of the block, so I'd use white. But, I don't use a buttonhole stitch. Those are so cute!

I think it would depend on whether you want the stitching to stand out or blend in. If blend in then you will need to do the thread change. If not I would go ahead and use either the white or black, depending on what you prefer.

I have one in my album. I matched the thread to the clothes and shoes. It's going to be darling. Show us when you get it done

I would use white. It is a vintage pattern and back in the day I believe I have seen white thread to be used in the majority of the quilts.

I have seen them done both ways, so it will just depend on what you like and how much time you have to change thread. You could put on black thread and do all the shoes, switch to purple and do all of that, then switch to pink, etc......rather than doing a block at a time with so many thread changes. I think this will make an adorable baby quilt. Are SBS's coming back, along with those adorable old fashioned baby girl names? I am not sure what you are calling a buttonhole stitch but I would use a blanket stitch to do the applique.....perhaps we mean the same thing?

Sorry I should have said blanket stitch, although on my 12000 its applique stitch. If I do go down the black for the shoes and color for the dresses etc I will do all the shoes first, then change and do the all pinks etc.

I am now trying to find some pretty pale pink fabric to use for sashing.......I was looking for Micheal Millers fairy frost....or something similar. I have some pretty fabric for the backing By the way the baby is a girl due in July. Name: 08_510003bbb1b73_90x90.jpg

Just beautiful. I haven't made these blocks so I will refrain from giving advice.

Super cute! I would at least do white on dress, etc. and only black on shoes. Either way , I am sure it will be adorable.
To quilt or not to quilt?.....what a ridiculous question!
