Super cute blocks! I'd do the applique all in black if it were me. Hard thing about asking opinions, you get lots of them!
Black thread and yarn do not stand the test of time and laundry as well as white. Must be the black dye, it disintigrates quicker. I have repaired applique done in black and it didn't last as the fabric did. Just my thoughts from a little experience.
How adorable! I love them! I think I would match the thread to the dresses and do black for the shoes. Whatever you do it's going to be amazing.
I agree with Suzy. I do a lot of applique for childrens clothes and I always do the color switch ( never thought about doing all one color, humm). Like Suzy said do all your under layers first, shoes, dress, hands, arms, hat. I'ts going to be cute!
I alway's use a satin stitch. But I think a small blanket would look cute and hand stitched.
I would match the thread to the clothes.
I rather like the black outline - definately for the shoes.
Another alternative is to maybe pick the predominant colour of each block and stick with that - pink, lilac, pale blue, green .......
Most of the images I found use black but they also use brighter colours - your pastel shades are beautiful and the black may be a bit too much.
Difficult descision - I'm sure whatever you choose will look wonderful

The previous ones I have done like this I used black thread and blanket stitch.

Somehow I fell this one should be different.
