    Default Need help with measurements

I saw table topper I would like to make but the pattern is not available. I tried to make up my own block from the picture but I don't think I measured right. Not sure but the finished blocks look to be about 4" x 4 with 6 across and 6 down so that with binding and sash it measures 25 1/2 ". This is a picture of what I put together. One larger square 2 strips and the little square.
Can someone tell me what measurements I need for each piece in the block. I thought I allowed for all the seams but I may be short 1/4"when I would add the sashing on.Thanks for any and all help.

Ann, Looks like a d9p - you know what that is right? You can make them any size you like - it may have been made with 5" charms...

I think your unfinished pieces should equal 5" like 3"sq with 2" strip. or 3 1/2 " sq with 1 1/2 strip. after sewing all together will be a 4 1/2" block and then sewn in rows should equal 4" finished.
Hope that makes sense and someone else chimes in to check my math too

If you made it as a Disappearing 9 patch using 5" cut squares, you would make (6) 9-patch blocks, cut them in both directions, rearrange, resew. It would give you approximately 26 x 39.

I did use the 5 " squares and they were way to big,I tried cuttig them down to get a 4 " square. Am still trying to get the right measurments. I am trying the d9p using 3 1/4 " squares trying to get a 4"sq. then it will take 6 sqs. across and 6 down to get 24 " then add the binding . Time will tell and I will let you know.

Ann, assuming a 1/4 inch seam allowance, if the entire block is 4 inches finished then it looks like the big square should be cut 3.5" square. The two longer cuts should be 3.5 x 1.5 and the small square should be cut 1.5 " square. When they are pieced. 3.5" square to 3.5" x 1.5", you have 4.5" x 3.5". Then attach the second 3.5" x 1.5" to the 1.5" = 4.5" x 1.5". Then piece these together and you have a 4.5 " square.

    6 across and 6 down would be 24.5 x 24.5

I think that's it. I'll check this out on my EQ later, but looks right.

If you add binding and border, you should get your size.
