I have a roll of doctor's exam table paper that I got from a medical supply place for $5. I cut a piece longer than the quilt and measure out the top on it, then I fold the paper several times until I get about the size spacing I want and draw or cut it like cutting paper dolls. Then I trace it onto the quilt. I don't cut until it's quilted.

I do so want to try a scallop border but have not yet had the nerve to try it. Yours is so pretty.

I have used the scallop border ruler and I keep my laptop right with me and go step by step along with Jenny. It turned out exactly as it should and I was really happy with it!
Don't look to closely at my FMQing....this was early on in my adventure!

What a great idea! Prairie Points and Scallops scare me to death. I don't like cornerstones, either, but at least I can do them.

But, Joyce, you made a king size quilt with a 100 different blocks. You can do anything!

I haven't tried this or bought the ruler yet. I love your idea of the exam paper. I now feel more confident in trying it. Thank you.

The quilts in this post are beautiful!

Another paper you can get is the end of the unprinted newspaper roll at your local newspaper office. We used to buy it all the time for the kids to draw and paint on.

Love your quilt. I want to make the scalloped border also. When I do, I'll have Jenny right there beside me on my lap top!

If you haven't already bought the scallop ruler, may I suggest you purchase the Easy Scallop by EZ Quilting instead? It's VERY easy to use, it's adjustable, and VERY accurate. Cheap too. Both EZ Quilting and Clover make the best ( and most user friendly and useful) notions and templates available.

Otherwise use long pieces of paper as some of the gals have suggested. Personally I think the ruler makes the job harder.

    Cheers, Pami
