How would you quilt this Fairy Frost quilt top for my soon to arrive granddaughter?
So below are the fairy blocks I embroidered with the stencil I planned on using on the fairy frost blocks. Well my daughter was here and says that flowers on the colored blocks would be too much. I tend to agree now that I think about it. My question is this. Should I STD in the fairy blocks as well as the colored blocks or only in the fairy blocks but echo in the colored? I need your opinions please?

I am using lilac Minky for backing and Fairy frost in Grape for the binding.
Thank you for the help.

SITD all seams then echo the coloured ones?
If you have some fabric left you could make a trial 4 patch (without the embroidery of course) and see if the echo is too much - you could even use the flower stencil and same coloured thread to confirm it IS too much - I rather like it.

I would quilt the flower into the colored fabric. But the idea is good to try it on a test and have a look how it will come out.

I don't know what echo means? I love your quilt though, those fairies are darlings.

Lovely quilt, I would STID around the squares but stipple in the colours squares, that way the fairy blocks would be more pronounced.

If you outline a shape more than once, it is considered to be echo quilting. There are some examples on this site. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I collect fairies and since this baby isn't here yet it is was my chance to use them in a quilt. I think I am going to sandwich a few squares even though I don't have those colors left and see what it looks like. I really need to get this done. I don't want it to be too busy so I think I have to experiment.
I can't stipple, I have only done STD but wanted to try something more complicated with the stencil. I am just going to have to practice and see what looks best.
The white was a DD, the fairy frost charms were a huge sale at $6 a packet and they are normally $19.99 and have 54 squares each. I pulled out the purples, blues and pink. I have a lot of other colors left to practice on. I got the Minky for the backing on sale for $7.95 a yard. The binding fabric was $12. So I am thrilled at how much I saved. I love a good bargain. I had thread issues that are fixed now so this top has taken far too long. I want it done and waiting for that baby to come.

i think i would do a X in the solid blocks to keep the shape...keeping it more simple and not distracting from the beautifulME flowers..

Beautiful quilt. Love the colors, love the embroidery, it's just wonderful. I would SITD and keep it simple in the solid squares as to not take away from all the beautiful embroidery work.

You made the quilt I wanted to make but using flowers. I wanted to do that since I got my embroidery machine. Beautiful!

Oh my gosh is that ever CUTE! I absolutely LOVE fairy frost fabric, and the embroidered fairies are perfect!
I just made a quilt with embroidered blocks, and someone suggested stippling around the embroidery to make to stand out, and it came out really cute!
I LOVE the suggestion to quilt the fairy in the solid blocks!

Re: How would you quilt this Fairy Frost quilt top for my soon to arrive granddaughter?
I have been looking at this quilt top all evening. I am now terrified to do anything but STD. I really want the color blocks to stand out as much as the fairy's. The fairy frost is so beautiful it can stand on it's own. It is sparkly. So I will post pictures of it when I am done.
CatnBull: I was at a huge sale at the LQS and had only brought a small amount of cash so I wouldn't kill my budget. I ended up putting the charm packs that I had in my hand back because I spotted these two Fairy Frost charm packs which were twice the size and beautiful tucked in a mess at the register. I am so glad that I did.
Wish me luck!

did you embroider the fairies onto a charm square? or embroider then cut to fit?

Re: How would you quilt this Fairy Frost quilt top for my soon to arrive granddaughter?
Charm square. I hooped the stabilizer, I used a whisper weight cut away, sprayed with a touch of basting spray and place my charm square on that.
