Default Top thread showing on bottom with FMQ'ing HELP!!!

I am getting better and better at FMQ'ing. But here's my problem. I am using two colors...top red, bottom black. I am pleasantly shocked and happy that neither shows on the opposite side. However..my problem...the starting and ending threads. I pull the bobbin thread to the top with the top thread before I put the quilt sandwich under the foot. Then, I slide it under, and take 2-3 stitches, and then do a reverse of 2-3 stitches (literally...2-3 stitches, I do it slowly so that is all I do) and the ends are caught and no tieing or unraveling.

However...here is the problem. The top is red thread and the ends look perfect, no black thread to be seen. However, on the backing side... a little bit of the red thread is pulled to the bottom and you can see the red thread. It is a tiny knot looking junction with the black thread. I can't pull it to unknot it, and if I just cut it down...you can still see the red thread. So it look kind of sloppy to have that little bit of red on the black back. I did Northern Star in red and black and outlined/top stitched each diamond portion of the star. I tried to do all the same color with one motion but that bunched up to much in the middle. So I did each diamond shape individually...which means a stop of the red/black thread on almost each diamond shape.

How do I stop this? I know it has been said to pull the threads to one side and tie them then needle thread them into the sandwich, but I can't do that on this....so..what can I do to make the back look nicer? I am planning on putting this quilt (and hopefully others!) for sale in a consignment shop so I want it to look as close to perfect as I can get it!
    Thanks for any tips!

Why can't you thread them into the sandwich. that is the easiest solution to your problem. Maybe if you just stitched in place a couple times that would lock them.

If I understand your question right, it's a common thing when you use two different colors. When you wash the quilt, that will correct its self. I don't back stitch because you bury. I usually tie the two then bury. Working on my first cup of coffee, I hope I I stood the question.

I know of what you speak. Can you see it from a foot away? If not I don't think it will bother anyone. We really are too critical of our work but mostly since we are looking at it up close with our glasses on.

Get a black pigma pen and see if you can darken that bit of red.

Why can't you do this if you are so concerned about the red showing?
