Work in Progress - Opinions desired
So if anyone 'knows-me, knows-me', I've had this crazy fear of the HST. So in an attempt to conquer my fear, I bought the 'City Block' DD charm pack a couple of months ago. And I had a Moda white charm pack in my stash.
(The same block, I might add, that I took to the sewing instructor, and we sure had some fun with that thread...)
Anyway, I've squared off the inner blocks and bordered maybe a third of the squares. I'm wondering how to finish off. I feel like the black is just screaming to come out. What do you think?

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
I think that black will really make the colors pop. It looks like you had no trouble with the HSTs at all. I have yet to try them.
Oh and I agree with the exclamation point thing lol

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
I do believe you are right...it is screaming black!
-
Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
I really love the blocks and the idea of using the black to finish it off. It will really pop.

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
WOW! you overcame your fear and did an awesome job. Love that line. The aqua frames them beautifully. You, Go, Girlfriend!

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Are you going to sash it with black? I would do that. I have that City Block jelly roll, i want to do that Phoebe quilt using that fabric line, it is beautiful!
Your blocks are amazing pretty!

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Agree with the above! Definitely black. And, your blocks look great. :)

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Your HSTs look fantastic. I think black sashing would look good and the zigzag print from the line would make a cool border.
-
Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Black would certainly make them pop. I say go for the black.

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Why ask when you already know the answer? Just kidding. I think Black would look terrific!

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Beautiful blocks and fabrics! I believe I would border each of the blocks with a narrow strip of white fabric, maybe a 1/2" finished border. Then I would use black fabric sashing about 1.5"-2" wide. I think the blocks would be cleanly separated with the thin white border against the teal and at the same time the contrast of white next to the black sashing would really make it all pop as opposed to placing the black sash directly on the teal. Just an idea....I'm sure it will be gorgeous however you put it together! :)

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
I think black would set the rest of the fabric off just right! Wonderful Job!

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Your blocks are wonderful and I love the fabrics you chose. I think black would compliment them beautifully. Can't wait to see it completed!

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Because my color schemes are whacky ( my daughter says so lol ) I would sash in that lime green ..Black would make the over all quilt very dark ? Its a lovely pattern btw and the triangles look amazing !

Love it; it is a good thing to face fear with a rotary cutter and determination. Great work!

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Beautiful blocks. Glad you conquered your fear. Your points are perfect. I think some black sashing would be nice.
-
Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
You did a super job on the HST's!
-
Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
I really like the colors and the HSts turned out great. Black is a good idea

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Oh Sue, this is going to be SOOO gorgeous!!! (I cant contain my excitement... I guess I am literally that hyper! hehehe) I think black will make it just pop, but maybe try what SewBee said and lay out a strip with a little bit of white and then a bigger black strip and see how that would look too. It is an interesting idea for sure.

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
I think black would be perfect, but have to echo the the thin white next to the teal and then the black. Would give it a little more interest and "custom" look. That said, either way will look good! Good job so far!

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Very nice. I think black sashing would look amazing too.

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Sue.......the blocks look great..........very sharp & crisp looking. Love the color combo and the black sashing would look great!
-
Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
WOW - you not only conquered that fear you demolished it. That is going to be beautiful. I agree with you that the black is calling out and black sashing would be awesome. I can't wait to see it finished!
-
Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Definitely black sashing.
I too have a huge fear of doing HST's so I admire you for facing that fear and doing them. They look fantastic!
-
Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
I was going to say exactly what SewBee said.....a little thin white, then black.......or sash with black and then do the 2 colors, white then black on the borders, if you don't have more matching coordinating print to go there. I think it is awesome that you conquered your fear of HST!!!!

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
I really like Sewbie's idea of a white and then black sashing. Very pretty!
-
Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Sorry, can I just ask again what HST is?!? I tried to do a search but there were too many hits and I don't know how to narrow it down! LOL!

Re: Work in Progress - Opinions desired
Wendy, Half square triangle is what it is.

After checking out Sewbee's album, it's clear she knows of what she speaks! I'll defer to the master craftsman!
Thanks for all the input, guys.
