first jelly roll
I just finished my first jelly roll (pics after I press it) and wow did it turn out bigger than I was expecting. Not really
sure what I expected, but it is about 56x64. Is this about right. I didn't use a regular jelly roll, I used 2 1/2" strips of
left overs from all my Childrens Hosp. quilts. Some were not full width of fabric, so threw in a couple extra half
widths or whatever widths. Figured it would be an I-spy quilt of sorts.

Re: first jelly roll
I think they are a great size for a couch when you use a 40 strip Jelly Roll. Where are your pictures? I want to see what you made.

Re: first jelly roll
What pattern did you use? I want to do a jelly roll quilt (since I have a couple jelly rolls that I have had for a while). Trying to decide which one to make. Thought about the jelly roll race or the amazing jelly roll. Both have tutorials on here.

Re: first jelly roll
mostly I just hate to waste fabric and there wasn't enough of some of them for blocks so I figured maybe this would work. Like them to be about 40x50 usually, but there are kids from 1 day to 18 yrs in there so bigger is ok.

Re: first jelly roll
That's adorable! Because of the "nature" of the jelly roll quilt one dimension will be either 32" or 64" approx. That's 16 strips by 2 or 32 strips by 2". The width is determined by the number of inches you start with. 1600 inches, for instance, the first time it is folded it will be 800 inches, then 400 inches, then 200, then 100, then 50, give or take. I have combined two smaller ones to make it 48" (32 + 16) and am currently making two that will finish at 64" square. I am also making those in two parts and will sew them together. Hope this makes sense to you - Jean is our Jelly roll expert.

Re: first jelly roll
Very pretty, and I save all of my 2 1/2 in strips to make scrappy jelly roll race quilts...all except the white ones as I sometimes use those for other projects.....I think yours turned out very nice!

Re: first jelly roll
My 40 strip jelly roll race quilts usually turn out that size. Sometimes I add a border, makes it a litle bigger.
