    Default Muslin

I am wanting to start a few different quilts that require muslin, but there are so many different kinds that I haven't started the quilts because I don't know what kind to buy. A couple of the quilts I will be appliquing and a couple are not. Is there a brand that I should be looking for? What brand do you use and why do you like it so much? Thanks!

If you find the answer to this question let me know. I bought muslin last week and I picked up two different kinds. One I am pleased with because it is heavier and more opaque and the other, when I looked at it, appeared to be good but was on sale and more reasonably priced. I am totally disappointed in it.

There is such a wide variance in color, too - so I get confused quite easily.
    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

I tend to go with a slightly heavier natural or bleached. You will be able to tell by the feel if you like it or not. And don't be afraid to unroll the bolt to get to a single layer so you can see what you are buying/ or not as the case may be.

I buy moda muslin. I get mine from hancocks of Paducah, it's usually on sale and wide if I remember right. Hope that helps

I am a big fan of the premium muslins (200 thread count). I've tried several brands and been happy with them. They don't seem to wrinkle or shrink as much. The brands I've used are Moda Bella, Legacy, Southern Belle, Kaufman Kona Premium muslin. I buy them when on sale. They do cost a little more than the cheaper stuff, but much less than regular quilting fabric is now. I usually pay about $3.50-$4.00 yard for it.

I like the legacy for quilt backs when I use muslin, but think for applique, kona muslin would be a better choice. I don't applique, but the kona is a tighter weave and would work well for the stitching associated with applique.

The only muslin I buy is Legacy 108" premium, I back all my quilts with it and use it wherever I need white......and I love it and you can tell the difference by feel....some muslins feel very rough...this one feels very smooth and softer, I have had no problems with it at all! I swear by it! Joann's carry it and I only buy with a coupon as it is currently running at $11.99 a yard!

I'm with lilmouse. I like the Legacy 108" premium. I've used it for embroidering my quilt labels and for quilt backing. I really like how it feels. I also wait until I have a coupon to get it and stock up on it.
    Thank you,

    Ginny K
