This really is an easy pattern and you can do it. I agree with the poster who commented about the sashing. This is not a pattern that lends itself to sashing in my opinion. Can't you just get more fabric and make the rows longer?

In reading, what I could, of your pattern it said twills, velvets, etc. for the border. That means you will probably need to get your quilt dry cleaned although I did wash and dry a quilt with those fabrics in it. Do you plan on using those fabrics or just cottons? I think this pattern will be very easy for you as a second quilt. My second quilt was my "Storm At Sea" with 4 Mariner Compasses. That was tough for me but I sailed through.
