First back up and look at the pattern. It's a basket weave type of thing. You might want to think twice about sashing between the rows, as that will probably break up the intended pattern.

To make it bigger, I agree that I would just add more rows. Make a test block of each to see exactly how big they will be (remember the 1/4" seam allowance thing) and figure how big you want/need. From there you can make each row is as long as you want it to start with, and you won't have to add more to the ends later to make it the right shape (been there, done that). You can also add more or wider borders to to the outside edges get your finished size.

When I learned sewing (clothing that was) I went with a pattern, the pattern said: Lay your fabric on the table.........that is what I did.......and I went back to the pattern, pattern said, put your pattern on the fabric...... then that was what I did.......and so I went on, step by step!
I learned cooking the same way!

Read........do.......read......do........ get that in your head and you can make anything you want!!

It is the same as Phoebe's quilt. Just ask yourself first, "wendy, how are you going to quilt a king sie quilt?". When you have a good answer for that, jump in and go for it. I've seen more than once folks who make King quilts, then moan that they can't quilt them. There's a lot of fabric and work in a king top. I just want you to be able to finish the project without tearing out your hair! See my head? No hair missing because I don't do king size quilts.

I have already decided that I am going to attempt a flower type pattern (very easy) in each block and failing that I will send it to MSQC to have it done there....or find someplace local.

You are very brave to do a king size quilt as your second quilt! Sure, you can do it! It doesn't look like too hard of a pattern. I think you are also smart to think about sending it out for quilting. I am working on a king size quilt now, and have been for months!
