Wendy, I KNOW you can do this!
First back up and look at the pattern. It's a basket weave type of thing. You might want to think twice about sashing between the rows, as that will probably break up the intended pattern.
To make it bigger, I agree that I would just add more rows. Make a test block of each to see exactly how big they will be (remember the 1/4" seam allowance thing) and figure how big you want/need. From there you can make each row is as long as you want it to start with, and you won't have to add more to the ends later to make it the right shape (been there, done that). You can also add more or wider borders to to the outside edges get your finished size.
