Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it
Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it. Last weekend my husband bought me an American magazine called "McCalls Quilting" and when l was looking inside l came across this quilt and instantly fell in love with it.. its called "news flash" l've looked online and found a kit is available via the designers which is $160...then l've got to get it here to Australia. I was in my local quilt store yetserday and discovered they've got both the "little black dress collection " and the " mama said sew collection" in stock .l'm going to take the magazine with me to the store and asked them give me a price for everything l need to make this quilt. It says the skill level is for a confident beginner..do you think l have the skill to make it ..l so love this quilt.. pics are below

Looks pretty easy to me! And I agree, it is darn cute!

Re: Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it
Lisa, it's not a hard pattern so long as you're confident making half square triangle units. There is a lot of piecing tho, so to me for a confident beginner the question isn't so much about ability, but more so staying power. Not trying to put you off, just being realistic.
Cheers, Pami

Re: Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it
You can absolutely do it! Lots of triangles! But you work on it one block at a time, so you can take your time finishing it.

Re: Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it
Thanks Everyone l really really want to do this its just so beautiful..l was just looking at the magazine and discovered there is a lap size pattern available on the McCalls website. so l'll get a price for the complete fabric requirements for both sizes and go from there.. and reading the instructions in the magazine you have to make the 1/2 square triangles the old way by drawing a line down the middle and sewing a 1/4 inch on either side of the line. Thats ok l've watched jenny do it enough to know how to do it ..so no biggie and as jean said l can take my time to make it as l feel like making a block or 2

THERE IS NO DOUBT YOU CAN DO THIS.

Re: Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it
That is such a beautiful quilt! I think you can definitely do it. Hey, maybe you can get some of that 1/2 square triangle paper, as long as they are the same finished size, it makes making a lot of triangles pretty easy.

Re: Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it
It is a beautiful pattern and I am glad you found this magazine, I really enjoy getting it in the mail here. I dont see why you wouldnt be able to do this pattern, just one block at a time, and no problemo! ;)

Re: Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it
Lisa like Jean said once you get every thing cut out (and that will be the hardest part), then just take it one step at a time and pay attention to the pictures and do it one block at a time and you will be fine. Good luck. The quilt is beautiful.

Go for it....oh and BTW... June Tailor (you can view on YouTube) has a practically fool proof HST tool (someone here has mentioned it several times, and linked the video, so i had to watch it and it does look worth the investment)... perfect for this project... buying the fabric local will be a good idea........ you might want to over buy a little on yardage... just in case... i think there is nothing like "doing and learning"... even if it's not perfect... it's YOURS .............Life and Handwork are not supossed to be perfect.. just loved and enjoyed, both process and object...:)

I am afraid that was me. I am in love with that ruler. I don't know the size of these HST but that ruler makes 1.5 to 6.5 HST. What I think that is hard about this pattern is the cornerstones. I am terrible about that.

Re: Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it
You did well on your chevron quilt and the HST. I think the old way of drawing a line works out better for me. You'll do fine.

Re: Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it
That is pretty and it doesn't look that hard. Probably rated confident beginner because of the sashings. The blocks should be easy.

Re: Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it
Take some scraps and make 1 sample block first. I don't do ALL my cutting until I have made at least 1 block. I think you can do it!

Re: Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it

Re: Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it
If you really love it I would give it a bash, it's certainly a nice pattern and I like the colourway too.

Re: Do you think l would be able to make this quilt l've fallen in love with it
Thankyou Everyone for the support......hehehehe @ Kathy.....I went to my local quilt store and its going to cost about $240 for all the fabric...that doesnt include the backing and batting.... I wanted to ask if someone in "MO" which l'm assumiing is "Missouri" would do me a favour if l give you the phone number for the company if someone wouldnt mind ringing and asking how much the kit will cost to ship to Australia... In the magazine it says the kit is $160... The Quilt is called " News Flash" and it's in the janaury / Feburary 2013 issue of "McCall's Quilting Magazine". l've left a message on their facebook page they said they post to Australia alot but they didnt give me a shipping rate.
