    Default Pinterest quilt

    Pinterest quilt-il_570xn.225801080.jpg

I saw this quilt on Pinterest and would like to make it. But, I am racking my brain trying to figure out how to do the block that has the plain center and small squares around the outside. I figure they used charm squares for the center and jelly roll for the outside squares. However, what would be the technique for getting the smaller squares around the center 5" square? If I sew two 2 1/2" squares together it isn't going to be 5". But, all put together the squares need to be 2 1/2". It's hard to put into words and I know none of this makes sense. Just trying to figure out how to make this block. If anyone has it figured out, please tell me.

If you sew 2.5 inch squares together, they will be 4 inches when finished. I would make them up as in the quilt as in 16 quilts and then do the four patch of 2.5 with the remaining border 4.5 inches. It should come out even

Someone check my math, please. I am not good at math stuff, so don't ever think I make a deposit slip out correctly or give you the right change. lol.

ps - if you go back to pinterest and click on the pic itself, it may bring you to the blog/site that made it with directions?

You would probably need to trim down the 5" charm square. It really is a pretty pattern, and I love the colors in this quilt.

It was a quilt for sale, I believe on Etsy so there was no pattern. I'm still confused. 2 - 2 1/2 inch block together would measure 4 1/2.
The center block starts out at 5 but will be 4 1/2 once all the pieces are together. But, how do you get all the pieces together? Am I wrong, should the small blocks be 2 3/4? I'm so confused, ha ha.

So, you are saying either start with a 4 1/2 inch middle square or make the smaller ones 2 3/4 and the center 5? I think I just need to take some scraps and do it before it's going to make sense.

Looks to me like it is made with charms and 5" strips. But then I could be wrong. But that is what I would do.

I think it could be made from a jelly roll, if the blocks are cut 2.5" and do a 16 patch with those and the strips are 2.5. I think my math is right but not 100% positive.................good luck!

Okay, I did some math (hopefully I did it right ha)

There is a charm square, and it is jelly rolls that is used as well...

    Okay, for the right one...

You put together four 2 1/2" squares together and that makes 8 1/2" row.

The second and 3rd row you use four 2 1/2" squares and a 5" square....

So you sew two sets of two 2 1/2" squares together. Then you sew them to the charm square and that makes that 8 1/2" same as the top row.

Then the same as the top row for the bottom.

Then with the other block you do a 8 1/2" strip from jelly roll for the top row.

The other two 4 1/2" strips to go on both sides of the charm square and then the bottom again you make 8 1/2" strip.

Hope this helps and I actually hope I did this right. LOL

I've got a quilt like this planned. I haven't made a block yet, so don't take this as gospel, but I'm 99% certain the center charm has to be trimmed down to 4.5" square.

ETA: Looked at my graph paper and shorte's excellent diagram again, and yup. The charm is 4.5 to start, 4 inches finished. (Assuming 2.5 inch to start, 2 inch finished for the outer squares).
