Re: POLL: What do you use to baste your quilts (other than spray basting).
Hi,
I am not sure what you mean by brands, size, name?
If not using a basting spray--all you need is bent safety pins or a long sewing thread to do by hand..right?
I PREFER Dritz repositional basting spray--so easy & holds --no gummy needle either

:icon_beuj: Don't know what you mean. I just use a long basting needle and inexpensive thread. Mostly I like to use spray basting.
Re: POLL: What do you use to baste your quilts (other than spray basting).
I have used safety pins but I no longer use those because I spray baste (505) or put it on my frame with straight pins.

505 spray adhesive or safety pins. When I did hand quilting I basted with needle and thread.

Have you tried 505 spray also? Just wondering how Dritz compares to 505. I can't find 505 locally, have to order it, but I believe I saw Dritz at Walmart.

I gotta' get with this spray-basting thing. I've been using long pins with yellow balls on top. Works fine, but I keep sticking myself! :0
Re: POLL: What do you use to baste your quilts (other than spray basting).
I use the bent safety pins for quilting along with a tool called quick klip, works great for closing those pins without your fingers getting sore!
Re: POLL: What do you use to baste your quilts (other than spray basting).
I use masking tape :D (to tape down the layers flat and tight), safety pins (bent ones work best) and the Kiwk Klip to help fasten the pins. I am not so sure about the idea of using the spray... yet. I dont like the idea of cleaning up a sticky mess but recently bought a can of 505 spray, so am going to give it a try at some time. Below is a link for the kwik klip thingy.

Re: POLL: What do you use to baste your quilts (other than spray basting).
I use straight quilting pins (the ones with the yellow head) and pinmoores (or rather disposable earplugs for the moment).
Sometimes I use the curved safety pins and I have used the 505.

ok I belong to PatternReview.com and there is a large community of quilters there -- some like spray basting, alot of the professional's do not!
I think you can read through this thread without the free joining, it's a LONG posting but a Professional Quitlmaker and Teacher has posted SO many great idea's I'd fill up several threads with them, so here's the post you can read... for everyone who's interested - She begins by talking about Walking Feet, various types of Batting, the Pins she likes for basting (she does NOT like the spray basting but is a Pro, not home sewer like many of us hehhe)... Hope this helps!

Hope that link works hmm
argh well that takes you to the Forums main page -- Scroll down to Quilting Forum -- Then look for the Large Walking Foot rant :-) In there about page 3 the Professional Quilter begins to help out :-)

I bought some of the curved safety pins recently because my hands were always covered in puncture holes from pins! I've just put a small quilt sandwich together with them and they were really easy to use. £10 for 75 here in England which I thought was expensive even for our prices.

I use Spray N Baste. I buy it at JoAnn's with a coupon. It is normally $14.99 and I usually use a 50% off coupon. I started buying this stuff for my embroidery projects before I ever got into quilting. It does not gum up my needle at all and I like that it is temporary so I feel comfortable that it will wash out.

Curved safety pins when I hand quilt. Spray baste for small quilts that I can machine quilt. I use the Dritz with no problem. 505 isn't readily available to me.
Re: POLL: What do you use to baste your quilts (other than spray basting).
I use a basting gun to hold my layers together, especially if it is a large quilt. Lately, I've been using the basting spray for my smaller projects, so I can machine quilt on them. Before the basting gun, I used regular thread and needle, and basted my quilt that way.

I'm with lilmouse, I use bent safety pins and a Kwik clip, sure saves my thumbs! I guess old school for me.
