My husband doesn't know what to do with all my quilting stuff when I'm gone!
I have a Bernina 830. I have a spare bedroom totally full of fabric. There are lots of fabric lines and quilt kits. I told him if I should die, he should ask my friend, who owns a quilt shop, to organize my items and then have an auctioneer have an auction and sell everything.
I have whole lines like jelly rolls, layer cakes, fat quarter bundles and some yardage of some of the fabric. Then I have soooo many rulers. I have probably every ruler ever made. I have every gadget, also. I have lots of excellent scissors. I have lots of rotary cutters, Gingher's, with 5 packs of blades not used.
I have lots of fusible webbing. I have dressers full of yards of fabric. I have a 23x72" cutting mat in good condition. I have lots of cones of Presencia thread. I have lots of Guttermann thread and Mettler thread not even used.
He wants to give it all to the second hand store and not have to worry about it. It makes me sick thinking he won't get any money from it and that just anyone will get all this quilting stuff. What should I do to make sure he makes money on my stuff?

Put it in a will - that it is to be auctioned.

Tell him you would come back to haunt him if he did that. Do you have daughters or DIL interested? I told my husband there is a lot of money in this room. Don't be throwing it all out. I do have one DIL that would love it

Funny you brought this up. I was on my third pack of Comic boards yesterday (a fourth pack ready to go)and looked at how much fabric I have. A lot in plastic bins too. Four sewing machines and all the stuff mentioned. I was thinking what are my Daughters going to with all this? I have a lot of childrens prints because I make kids clothes, so they won't like them.
But you know that's a whole full of house stuff too. My mom got so sentimental about her stuff that she made the family go around and tag what they wanted. She was so worried that her taped videos wouldn't be taken that her sister felt quilty and put her name on them. When mom passed and I saw that my aunt still had them ( I'm talking about two hunderd taped tv shows) I told her to get rid of them.
So I'm not going to worry about my stuff. They can fight over it after I'm gone. lol

Get busy sewing and make quilts out of it. Don't die until you have made up all your quilts! Lol

Ahhhhhhh,,, what is it about "comic book boarding",,, that make one think this way...LOL
The one thing i have noticed is that as i've aged and collected and repeat, repeat... i sew less,,, so after having gotten the sewing area in better shape... it's about time to crank stuff out...
I was bad yesterday.. bought the DD, but like the line and after posting the thrifty use of a layer pack... and tempting so many others... i broke down and hit purchase...LOL
I AM though in a new mind set to "use up the fabric".. lots of scrappy quilts in mind.. and i've a whole wall to choose from instead of going shopping.. i bought all this fabric cause i like the colors,,, so now it's time to put them together...
My kids know the value and will probably find a senior center that has a strong quilting group and donate it..that would be my wish,,, either that or if by chance they know some needy family with a "sewer/crafter"... it will be a gift for them...

I think including it in a will is a super idea. That way you'll have some control over what happens to it.

You need to take charge of your quilting stuff. First of all stop letting it just sit there collecting dust. You bought it to create something so get to it and create!
Second, you talk to your friend at the quilt store and you make arrangements for her to come in and take it all out of the house if something happens to you.
Then, tell your husband that "insert friends name" is to be notified if something happens because she is going to take care of your quilting stuff. Make sure that your hubby knows that a check will be coming and that your friend gets a small cut for her trouble.
Problem solved!
