Question Can this be Duplicated with a Layer Cake and Jelly Roll?

I am drooling over a two Quilts -- First was originally done in a size for Project Linus. Now released for Twin and Queen sized.

It LOOKS like it can be done with a Layer Cake (or two) and jelly roll??

Same with this Gorgeous Quilts - May mean some fabric shopping but I never say no to that!! :-)

Jean's the math wiz at figuring out Jelly rolls and SO much more, but if anyone else has tried these patterns with Layer Cakes, Jelly Rolls whatever Pre-cuts (or I COULD force myself to cut my own :-).. please let me know

Thank you so much for looking

I think the second one you posted would work with a layer cake and jelly roll...it is cute!

Yep! Pretty quilts. Saving the photo of the checkerboard one. Great idea!

Thanks - I love seeing other folks new to me links!! Especially to FREE Patterns hahaha I really like both these and have 1 layer Cake and 1 Jelly roll from the Same line (McCalls)... and also have a Jelly Roll and a Fat Quarter Bundle from Jenny Byer (I really want this for a quilt for US to keep!!!) I may have to get another Layer Cake of the McCalls to make one of these -- But can't figure out how to convert WHAT they say to cut and use -- into layer cake and jelly roll "friendly"

    hmm

Ok, I have no clue how to figure out how to do these with pre-cuts. But I do know there were a LOT of free quilt patterns that I saved from that site! Thanks for making my to-do quilt list even longer!!! LOL

hahaha oh I know - So many great patterns that list isn't ever going to get shorter!

I've got to make something DH will LOVE and by Valentines day -- I'd Love to do the Warm wishes but I'm math disabled and just can not figure out how to cut up a Layer cake to do it... hmm The 9 patch reads more Pre-Cut friendly.

Good luck on the "to-do" quilt list!

I think I will try it out. At least it will be sort of like this. I have taken a redworks layer cake and made HST out of it and I have a jelly roll in the same line. I think I will try to lay out the HST for the centers and make the other sections with the jelly roll. This is about 3rd down on my list right now but I will add a photo when and if it works out. Funny that I copied this pattern a while back and didn't do anything with it then.

I haven't done all of the math, but it seems to me that you would be better off using yardage for the Warm Wishes quilt. You need 17 strips at 3"x 37" or 97 rectangles at 3" x 6" of the middle color (gold) in the blocks. You get 4 of those from every layer cake piece, and would need 25 10" x 10" pieces to make 97 blocks. If I'm figuring it right...

You could modify the size of the blocks of the Warm Wishes from 6" square to 6 1/2 " square and make something very similar with jelly roll strips and layer cake. The tri-color "unit" of the Warm Wishes uses a 3" strip in the middle with a 2" strip on each side. When sewn together, the unit is 6" wide and is sub-cut into 6" squares. If you used jelly rolls, you could sew 3 jelly roll strips together. The width of the strata would be 6 1/2" so you'd need to sub-cut it into 6 1/2" squares. Then the focus fabrics (block A) would need to be cut 6 1/2" to match up to the "units". The overall look would be a little different. If you have some scrap fabric, you could make a test unit and lay it out like the Hanukkah block that's shown in the instructions to see how it would look.

If you cut the squares of focus fabric from layer cakes, you could get some 2 1/2" strips from them too.

(((Hugs))) Thank you all!! Had to put it on my later to do list because I saw Jenny's Tute on "1 layer Cake + 1 Jelly Roll = Quilt" Cut it out and sewed on it last night, began piecing the top this morning and NO way Hubby's going to like it

*sigh* It's the McCalls Layer cake and Jelly Roll

BUT now I"m looking for ideas on a Jenny Beyer Monochrome charm pack and Twice the Charm (5 1/2 x 22" fabrics 15 pieces)... maybe a disappearing 4 patch or 9 patch... THEN Jenny's got 2 more cute tuts out -- ohhhh so many choices.

I do love both those patterns, they sure are keepers for just the right Color Combo's aren't they.

Good luck, love to see what other's can use in pre-cuts and make them - Photo's when done of course :-)
