    Default Quilting with velvet(een)

A friend has asked me to make a sumptuous, luxurious velvet quilt for her baby that will be coming in a few months. My first thought was that velvet will be VERY difficult to care for as it usually needs to be dry cleaned.

I told her that I needed to do some research to see if there was something a little more laundry friendly. What I thought might work would be velveteen. Has anyone made any quilts with velveteen? Does anyone have a better suggestion for a luxury quilt?

You might try what is called Panne Velvet it looks like velvet , feels like velvet but is washable It is a knit and I have never quilted on it , but have used it as random blocks in quilting like 5 inch blocks. would be very sumptuious (sp) with eyelets and some sateens. would love to see the finished quilt

Or, though I find it very difficult to work with, Minkee . . . sounds as if she's looking for something soft and comfy.
    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

My suggestion was going to Minkee as well. Actually softer than velvet in my opinion.

Velveteen is also very stretchy. It would require interfacing imho. My first thought was Minkee as well - or a lovely flannel.

Minkee quilts up very nicely. I just finished a large lap quilt with Minkee on the back and it is beautiful. I would not bind in Minkee I find that very hard to work with.
