Default What does everyone use to mark their quilts for quilting

Just wondering what everyone uses to mark with and what do you use to see on black or dark fabrics. I use the frixon gel pens by pilot that erase when you hit it with the iron they come in lots of colors but not white I tried the pounce system and did not like that and the white pen clover makes only seems to work for me hit and miss. I'd love to hear what you all use.

I have the hot pink one that I can SEE on dark fabrics really well -- from MQS of course - LOVE how they disappear on the iron

I use the Frixon pens, water soluble pens, the ones whose ink disappears in a few days and tailor's chalk. With the Frixon pens the marks will return if the item gets cold, but will disappear when put in a dryer or pressed. The water soluble marks will not come out if it's ironed before being washed out.

I a while back bought Mark-B-Gone pen set, it came with a white and blue marking pen in a package. It's one where you just hit it with a dab of water and the ink disappears. I love it because it doesn't disappear til I am done with it because I had a pen before where it would disappear within minutes before I was done using whatever I marked it for.

I didn't see this until I had already posted a question of my own. I have been reading that quilters are using children's washable crayola markers to mark their quilts. Has anyone tried this?

I have read about the washable crayolas but haven't tried them. I have some quilters pencils and for many of my quilts use them. I have them in red and white and blue. They do wash out nicely.
I've also used frixion and lost my infatuation because I don't think the expense is worth how short lived their pens are. Just don't last long for me - but I do like the marking ability.
In the end, I find that for most of my quilts I can get by with a mechanical pencil and the quilters pencils.

I also have been reading over at quiltingboard.com that many, many quilters use the washable Crayola markers. I'm going to pick some up the next time I go to Walmart.

I don't mark quilts. I am not that advanced, and either meander or use the pantograph on the frame. I just want to say that some of those Fixon pens (which I love) leave a white mark once they are ironed. Test some on some scrap fabric. I use the pens for marking sewing lines, etc, but not on the outside of the quilt.

So when you use these are you marking out the whole quilt with a pattern? Sort of like the pounce but with a pen? I haven't looked into this too much because I have been sending them out.

I have used the washable crayola markers.
They will transfer to your hands, etc until they are dry. I used them on flannel. Pick a color that you can see but that is the closest to your fabric or the lightest you can see, just in case.
I have always test marked & washed the fabric just to make sure. I have never ironed them and then tried to wash them, so I don't know about that.
I have a set of marking pencils (kind of like chalk) that seem to work well for me in red, white, and blue. These are better on quilting cottons, which is why I tried the markers on flannel.
