Half Square Triangles Tool?
I am looking for a "ruler" that I once saw Jenny use for HSTs. You laid the tip from diagonal point to diagonal point. There was a slit down the center where you could draw the center line and then draw down both sides of the ruler for your 1/4" seams.
I'm working on HSTs and it's not working out right. My squares don't turn out to be 5" consistently and I'm sure it's because of my 1/4" seam being inaccurate.
Thanks,
Diane

Just my opinion - I think you should make them a little bit bigger, then square them up
It may seem tedious, bit it is soooo worth it!

I agree. It's almost impossible to get them perfect. Just make them 1/2 inch bigger and trim them.
Re: Half Square Triangles Tool?
I also agree. It is the only way to get them square.
Re: Half Square Triangles Tool?
I just tried this method of cutting larger and then cutting down. You're both right....it's the best way to go. Sure with there weren't 66 HSTs to do! :-)
Thanks for the advice.

I have that same ruler from Connecting Threads. One thing I need is a mechanical pencil to use with it. I noticed using a regular pencil that isn't as sharp as it can be makes the lines more than 1/4 inch apart. That said, I still square up my HST, even with the ruler.

I use a mechanical pencil with it, never tried a regular one. I still square mine up too and I only use that for marking the sewing and cutting lines, it works great.
Re: Half Square Triangles Tool?
I have a tool called "the angler II" and it is a template that tapes on the machine for 45 degree angle lines - need to press or draw lines on the squares when making HST. much faster!
Re: Half Square Triangles Tool?
I also just bought the Angler II and it seems to work well. Good luck!

The only ruler I would buy is the June Tailor Half Square Triangle ruler. You will get absolutely perfect HST with it. It has two slits in which you place you marking pen to draw the SEWING lines, not cutting lines. After you sew it, it has another slit to place your rotary cutter in to cut them in half. (I just use my scissors for this.) The most important part is the center part where you square up your HST to perfection. Be sure to read how to place the ruler for squaring. You can make HST from 1.5 inches to 6.5 inches, and perfect all the time. Search for a YouTube video to see it in action.
