I went out on the weekend and picked up fabrics...they're okay but I only really LOVE one or two of them. Got 22 fat quartees and spent $70. My problem now is....I'm afraid to start cutting it! What if I mess it up? What if the colours dont match well? What if i end up not liking the pattern?!
I know, breath! Sigh. Any encouragement out there to just cut??!?
Save the fabrics you l love and cut those last. You can practice on the first few. If you don,t l love the pattern you can make it a gift for someone else. If your quilt is a different one than this you will soon find out.
You can do it! Cut, cut, cut. Ha ha. I do the same thing. I spend more time looking at fabric and worrying about what it is going to look like than actually cutting it. What pattern were you thinking of doing?
I'm getting ready to cut too! Just go for it. I'm making up my pattern so I just finished drawing it out and I am going to cut. Just go for it, it'll be beautiful. Don't judge it too soon.....sometimes the bigger it gets, the better it looks, and sometimes it becomes fantastic only after the borders. It changes with every step....give it a chance.
What pattern are you doing?
yeah what pattern and show us the fabric. I bet it's not that bad!
I do understand your fear! I procrastinated cutting....'gotta find the perfect pattern'!!!!......but then knew I should just jump in with both feet or would never do it. I'm with Lisa, cut your least fave first and then you'll have more confidence when you get to the others. Practice, practice, practice!

Once you start seeing the pieces come together you will wonder why you hesitated! But I do understand...I've done the same thing!
My advice. Think twice, cut once. (Ask me about my 10" squares and massive waste from hexagons)....~sigh~ On 6 yards of fabric I LOVE....had to go find coordinating fabrics to assist in my mistake.
I agree with sew crazy, think and measure twice, cut once! Have the courage of your convictions as my paramedic instructor once told me. Boldly go!
I think when I see a pattern it helps me choose the fabric and you have more courage! I let the pattern dictate which fabric or I've found the perfect fabric, now look for that pattern that shows it off.

I use graph paper a lot. You could map out your cutting instructions on graph paper and then follow the plan. OR write out the steps in order and follow that plan. When I make a plan, I check off each step which keeps me from getting lost or confused (most of the time, haha)
As for the colors matching the pattern - hard to say. A picture (or description) would make that easier and even then, it's only an opinion.
