    Default Need your ideas!

Hi, all you special people. I was given a completed quilt today by a husband of a dear friend, Pat, who died last March. She was an avid (and skilled) quilter which makes this beautiful quilt striking in yellow and blues. She had made the quilt for a one year anniversary gift for someone in her family, with 20 squares (around 6" or so) of copied pictures that Pat had taken at the wedding interspersed throughout the quilt. Unfortunately, they divorced so of course she did not give it to the family member. I am wondering if any of you have any suggestions to get this quilt fixed so it can be used! It is a beautiful quilt and she put a lot of love and work in it. It is a shame that it was hiding out in the closet. I'd like to bring it back to life!

Thank you for any and all suggestions. Am trying to think of more logical solutions, as well as any 'outside the box' ideas!

Well you know what the first suggestion is going to be, "We want pictures!" lol

I know that nobody likes to be reminded of a divorce, so pictures of the (no longer) happy couple are probably a no no lol But are any of the pictures of friends or family who attended the wedding? Like maybe pictures of parents or siblings or cousins that would be nice to keep on the quilt? Or maybe just nix the pictures completely and just fill in those squares with whatever pattern she used for the rest of the quilt?

It's hard to judge without seeing it, but I'm sure someone here will have an awesome idea

A picture would help but here are 2 ideas off the cuff:

Can you add some applique pieces over the pictures to camouflage them?
Can you remove the pictures and replace them with matching fabric?

Thank you Ladies! I have a new camera to take pics, now I have to figure out how to get it set-up. (thought I could do it on my own, but will have to swallow my stubborness/pride and ask for help) The quilt is completely finished, right down to the label on the back. I think it might work to just applique a square over the picture. I don;t dare cut out the fabric that has the pic on it. I'll fiddle with it and by then should have the camera up and running so will post then.

    Thank you for your help!

I agree - the first thing that came to mind was to applique over the pictures. Have any lace doilies or old-fashioned hankies that would work? Flowers, loose and floppy??????
    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

I think that's a great idea to applique over the picture/ pictures. If it was a divorce they might not want to be reminded of the whole event. This is a hard one.

These are my thoughts. I think applique with fabric - or maybe other pictures. If it's already quilted, I don't know how easy it would be to replace the blocks.

Another thought - could it be cut apart into small blocks and then pieced together in the quilt as you go method?

Definitely want to see before and after pictures of this.
